Apartamentos Fernão de Ornelas by Heart of Funchal

- central location - spacious and relatively new - pretty clean - helpful and friendly host - i liked the bed - kitchen with all the needed supplies and some more

- didn’t like the street at night - a headache if you have a car, because of the parkings - no balcony - a lot of stairs to get to the 4th floor - no wifi, it didn’t work at all for me and i find it a basic requirement nowadays unless in very remote area which was not the case

Location to the centre of Funchal was fantastic. Apartment is clean, modern & comfortable. Kitchenette was well equipped.

Might have been a little small to fit a family of 4 in comfortably.

We were a family of four staying nine days in Madeira celebrating Christmas. The staff were very helpful and responded quickly. The location was perfect and felt very safe. Walking distance to everything we needed. On the 23rd of December it was a big Christmas celebration in "our" street. We could watch everything from the window. We had a fully equipped kitchen. The apartment was cleaned and towels and bed linen were changed one time during our stay.

The kids were sleeping in the "living room" facing the street. It could be a little bit noisy in the morning. At the same time, I think it's the price you pay for living in the centre of everything. Wouldn't change it for another location. It's a pedestrian street, so no traffic noise. If you have a car, it's not a parking lot with the apartment. We rented a car a couple of days from a car rental around the corner. Parked the car in a parking house a few minutes away (by the cable car).

The apartment was really, really lovely. It had everything you could need: the kitchen was really well equipped - you would be delighted with it in your own home, very smart! - and the bathroom was super clean. A lovely big walk in shower. Good water pressure. Lovely big towels. I found the double bed very comfortable, though it was a little too firm to suit my husband! Very large wardrobes including internal drawers so lots of places to store your stuff, making the apartment feel more spacious. And it was so centrally located! Some fantastic bars and restaurants only a short walk away. The apartment is on a lovely pedestrian shopping street, with cafes for breakfast (even on Sunday) so we could get a pastry fix every day! Also great gelato shops. There aren't bars on this street so it meant it was lovely and quiet at night. It was a short walk to most of the main sights and to the cable car for getting up to the gardens at Monte and the botanic gardens. The host company was so lovely and helpful. Very responsive by phone/Whatsapp. Their representative came by the first morning (we arrived in the evening) to collect the city tax and gave us some great tips for things to do, as she lived locally. They also allowed us to keep our keys and leave our luggage in the apartment on our last day when we had the whole day before going to the airport. This was so helpful to us as it meant we could fully enjoy the final day without dragging our cases around.

We found the wifi did drop in and out, which was no problem for us as we were on vacation, but if you needed to use it for work purposes, it might have irritated you. I think it was largely down to the weather, as we had some flash downpours between the sunshine and some high winds on the first two days as the island got hit by the tail end of a tropical storm. The wifi connection was better after that subsided.

When we arrived the property was spotlessly clean. The host was very helpful. She helped arrange a ride from the airport directly to the apartment. It was nice to have a kitchen. It was a very relaxing place to be, a great “home base” for your adventures in Madeira.

I really enjoyed my stay. The room was comfortable, and the location was convenient, making it easy to get around. The amenities provided were great, and I appreciated the friendly service. The hotel was also very accommodating, allowing us early check-in and late check-out, which was a huge help as I was traveling with my 1.5-year-old child.

I was disappointed that there was no elevator, which made it a bit challenging to carry my luggage and stroller.

Excellent central location just steps away from supermarket, cafes, farmers market. Apartment was modern, extremely clean and well equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay. The building itself was safe and secure. The hosts communication was excellent, and the little touches of a personalised welcome note and Madeiran biscuits much appreciated.

Nothing, everything was great

Very clean, very new and modern furniture, fantastic kitchen, lovely illumination, all utensils we needed, attention to detail, very kind host, friendly welcome and biscuits, location in the center, a few steps away from supermarket, mall, shops, restaurants, farmacy. We had a very pleasant stay. Would definitely come back.
