Mix up at check-in. This is a self check in hotel, and my confirmation check-in code for the door was sent to a stranger as well. He was able to open my door while I was in the room laying in bed and relaxing already. It would be great if they added a deadbolt to the door so the guest can lock it once they are inside and prevent this from happening in the future.
Check in at 4pm is later than others (3pm) and you are not provided information regarding check in until after 2 pm. We arrived early as this is a new location. No obvious signage for directions. The hotel is hidden behind trees. The most frustrating start was being unable to find the actual room number. They have room numbers the size of a dollar bill on the door in a patina bronze color that is unable to be read unless standing next to the door which is the same brown color. There are no large numbers on the sides of the buildings to direct a person. We had to drive around and search, getting out of the vehicle to get closer to the door to find the number. If it was dark, it would have been impossible without walking from door to door. Actual access to the door is only at 2 points at either end of the building. Luggage has to be toted up ramps because the buildings sit atop 4 foot concrete platforms most likely because of poor soil underneath. Vehicles are unable to drive completely around the buildings to look for the rooms because the elevated rock parking lot is only in the front. The "amenities" they have on their website are absurd as these are normal sanitary items and procedures. There are NO amenities, yet their prices reflect deluxe rooms with real hotel amenities. This should be shoulder season and there should be discounts. The coffee pot in the room was a laughable vintage style in the cheapest glass hand held pot. While the room itself was cosmetically nice and modern, the pillows were uncomfortable--thick stiff foam that placed a person's head and neck in improper alignment. I ended up using the deco pillows because they were smaller. They only have a bench seat around a table at two sides. Chairs are needed. While they have TV, there are no channels, it is personal streaming only. No coffee shop available although their site states there is. This place is way over priced for what it provides and in the off season; in addition as this is only self check in and check out. No front desk, no employees. I will not stay here again and have been passing on the information to the others that stayed in town as we gathered for breakfast.
It was satisfied, the room was fancy and have refrigerator, the only thing need stove to cook my favorite food is stayed more than a week
It was mostly clean but there was pee in the toilet when I checked in. Not the cleanest sheets and there was some hair left around. The bed was not supportive so the center sunk down pretty far. It was an ok place but nothing excellent. I did like the check in process though.
We were in a room for 4 days; had NO housekeeping services provided.
The hotel appears new, with the rooms clean, quiet and comfortable. Kristen is a joy. She is invaluable source of information regarding things to do and places to eat in Seward. The only negative thing for us is it does not gather luggage at the train station and take it to the hotel nor provide a "regular shuttle service". When I asked about shuttle service, I should have gotten more details when the response was, "We provide shuttle upon request for $20 for each pick-up or drop-off." As we traveled to Seward by train, we had no car, and taxi and Uber are non-existent. Therefore, we relied on calling Kristen to pick us up or drop us off. This worked well when available, but it also meant leaving voicemails when she was cleaning rooms or running other errands. The nearest restaurant was a .6mile walk. Thus, if you have a car, Spruce Lodge is fantastic. If not, be advised of the transportation issue.
The room was large, comfy and nicely furnished. We enjoyed our stay and the self check-in was very convenient.
