Tropic Bacalar

Bacalar in general is a MUST place to visit

Great location right on lagoon. We had a balcony room with lagoon view. The view was breathtaking. Nice lawn area leading to boat dock with lawn chairs and hammocks. Decent breakfast of yogurt, fruits, toast.

It was loud at times. Could hear tv from room 3 doors away and had to complain to front desk. Hotel had kayaks and paddle boards available but not at no charge for guests. Most other hotels offered these as an amenity.

If you want hot water and don't speak Spanish, don't stay here. None of the staff speaks English, making even basic communication very difficult. Kayaks aren't included, so you have to pay 600 pesos to rent them for the day. We never got hot water during our 3-night stay at the hotel. The room is extremely bare, no little fridge, no side lamps, only one big light above the bed making it impossible to read at night. Only 1 pillow per person, badly stained towels and pillowcases. Electricity kept being cut off, leading to a very warm room (no AC) and no Wi-Fi. The only positives of this place are the beautiful view from the room and the hammock on the balcony. The nice garden and immediate proximity to the lagoon, meaning you can kayak/paddleboard straight from the hotel, are also bonus points. Breakfast was free and decent. All in all, however, I would not stay here again if I were to return to Bacalar, as the negatives unfortunately outweigh the positives, at least in my opinion.

Great setting is the biggest plus of this hotel. It has its own access to the lagoon, which was awesome. It's located quite far from the city center though, so I'd recommend to have its own car if you're planning to explore the city more. Our room had also a lovely balcony with a hammock

There was a constant problem with water pressure in the pipes, so taking a shower and even flushing the toilet was a problem often. Overall, the bathroom was quite dirty and shower a bit gross.

Out of the surrounding properties this is from our perspective the one that provides the largest sites per number of guests. The hotel offers a large area with gras to hang around, several hammocks and sundbeds etc. We have seen other hotels, much more pricy ones, that had much smaller space to hang out at the lagoon. The garden is also very clean and well maintained. We had a room with garden view and even though the rooms are very basic in terms of equipment it was furnished in a somewhat stylish way that made us feel comfortable. It is a very relaxed and chilled atmosphere and we really liked our stay there. We can recommend this property to anyone who does not need much luxury in their room and wants to enjoy a good time directly at the lagoon in a quiet environment.

Given that it's roghly a 30 min walk into the center of Bacalar, we believe they should provide some bikes or the like. Other hotels in the neighborhood did that. W/o those is it very difficult to get around if you don't come by car. The breakfast, as many others already said, is a bit limited but was fine for us (you can make a bowl with fruits, yogurt and granola). What is, however, a negative point that they ask you to clean your dishes yourself after the breakfast - while the staff at the reception was just sitting there for ages checking their smartphone.

View from balcony was great. exactly as shown on website. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was very good with a reasonable selection. There was a great restaurant about 2-3 minute walk from hotel on opposite side of street.

Muy comoda la habitacion, amplia y limpia. Tiene una entrada a la laguna muy bonita, bastante tranquilo todo. Fuimos en temporada baja, asi es que el hotel se sentia casi solo para nosotros. Es pequeño y comodo. Lo recomiendo mucho.
