Mövenpick Hotel Hobart

We had a very pleasant stay at Mövenpick Hotel Hobart overall. The hotel is in a fantastic central location, just around the corner from the main shopping strip, which made it very convenient for getting around. The staff were lovely and welcoming throughout our stay, both at the hotel and in the restaurant, which we really appreciated. The hotel itself was relatively quiet, however the nearby church bells ring every hour, even overnight, which may be something to be aware of if you are a light sleeper. We also found the soundproofing between floors could be improved, as footsteps from above were quite noticeable. That said, we were very happy with our stay overall and would happily return.

1. Abusive reception: we booked our stay via Trip.com and requested a high floor room in the booking, the receptionist deliberately arranged a low floor at 5/F despite abundance of vacancy all the way up to the 15/F. 2. Abusive reception x 2: the receptionist asked for our email address. We slowly read an alphabet after an alphabet and she pretended she could not hear clearly. Then when we wrote her our email address on a memo sheet, for the word like “rocketmail”, she even asked if it is “rocke+mail”??? So we wrote her our email address on our iPhone for her to read, she started to talk in a grumpy look and sarcastic tone saying “Oh I can speak English”. 3. Abusive reception x 3: we joined the valet parking scheme and 20 minutes before we needed our car, we called the receptionist from our room. 20 minutes later we arrived at the lobby, no car was ready. So we asked the receptionist the progress, ironically, the car key was still at the reception. No one was handling. Regrettably we gotta pick up the key then search for our car by ourselves. 4. Abusive reception x 4: the disaster further descent to its nadir when we called the reception at night for some additional towels and an extra quilt. For more than half an hour, no one brought us the towels and the quilt. So we went to the reception again to express our frustration, the receptionist just replied they were “on their way” and they didn’t know how long it was going to take. She even started smirking and laughing when we summarised our disappointment throughout the day. What a disgrace! Worst hotel experience ever in my life. TAKE HOME MESSAGE: NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL!

Pretentious, given the amount of scuffs, damage and unimpressive facilities in the room. Staff are lovely, can not fault them. Beyond the fancy facade though, the people I made the booking for said that given the exorbitant cost of the bare minimum room, there weren’t really that impressed
