Sofraga Palacio

The staff were wonderful, room was beautiful and the bed most comfortable. Because the city was making repairs on the wall that is a shared wall with the hotel, be sure to ask about a room that is further away. Not sure how long the repairs will continue through no fault of the hotel. All in all it is a lovely hotel with a great location. And very professional staff. A good stay in Avila!

This Property is amazing! The hotels is within the walled city of Avila, the best preserved early middle age fortress in the world. The walls encircle an area of 33 hectares and contains a functional city. The Sofraga Palacio hotel has been built inside a palace begun in the 1500's and upgraded in the 1800's. They have built modern, tasteful accommodations within the original walls. They left exposed whatever walls and beams they could while not compromising the modern hotel. The way they abruptly transition between the two totally works. Beware; the hotel gives a 10% discount coupon for their restaurant BUT if you sit in the portion of the restaurant OUTSIDE the hotel’s exterior wall, you will not get the discount. The waitress was not attentive. It took us 2 hours to order our food and have it served. The food was very good… the service was… not.

Fantastic hotel in a great location ,The staff in all roles were first class and always happy to help.Taxi from the train station was approx 7 euros .good places to eat or drink close by .Through th City Gate across the road is a nice Taberna,if you go right outside of the walls next door to the ticket office for the wall walk is a Bodeguita ,and a ceveceria,oppositie Cafe Postes is good ....one to avoid is the hostel cafe ( bad experience )

This is (so far) the best place we have stayed in Spain. It is well situated just inside the city wall (which actually forms one of its walls) with excellent staff, several eating options and a pleasant outlook. Our room was large and well furnished and in Avila everything is in walking distance. We liked the hotel so much we stayed another night

Sofraga is a very well-appointed hotel. The staff and service were great! The room was clean, Restaurant served great food. There is parking onsite for a fee. Great location in Avila, right by the wall. My husband wishes he can stay longer and just be at the hotel. He considers Sofraga as one of his favorite hotel for its service, staff and room.

The building and grounds are beautifully maintained. Parts of the city wall are incorporated into the building. The old beams and brick and stonework inside makes it feel like being transported back in time except it still has the elegance and comfort of modern times. The staff was amazing. They made sure we had everything we needed. When my mother wasn’t feeling well, they came to the room to check on her and offered to get her access to a pharmacy. They gave her extra water and even checked the room temperature to make sure she was comfortable. Very caring and professional.

Fantastic location and rooms are very comfy. The staff were all very friendly and spoke English well. We had a great time in Avila and the fact that this is right at the castle gate and forms part of the castle wall makes this place so special as well as easy to get to. Parking is secure and easy too.
