Lovely clean airy hostel and spacious outside at reception and good size kitchen with view of castle walls. Bedroom alittle small for a double bed but comfy and quiet all night, tv in room and fan that was much needed due to the heatwave, we stayed an extra night! Bathroom lovely with power shower. Lovely bathtowels too;)

The hostel is a quick walk to the coach station and central.

From check-in, something felt off. The property was poorly staffed and unusually empty, with minimal visible management. Cleanliness was a major issue. The kitchen and fridge were dirty, and overall standards were not what you would expect even from budget accommodation. After my first night, I found bed bugs in my room. I was not informed of any issue in advance. I immediately requested a room change or alternative solution, but was only offered another room that had been “steamed”, which is not an appropriate treatment for bed bugs. The manager was unavailable, and communication from the landlord was dismissive, including a comment along the lines of “for £20 per night what do you expect?”, which felt unprofessional given the seriousness of the issue. As the situation escalated while I was trying to find alternative accommodation, the police were called by the property. They attended, understood the situation, but were unable to take action. I had to leave and find alternative accommodation at my own cost on a Saturday night (£140 per night), with concerns about potentially carrying bed bugs to other locations during my travels. Overall, this was the poorest experience in terms of cleanliness, safety, and customer service in my whole life travelling hostels in the world. I would not recommend staying here.

This place was so grubby and dank I couldn’t stay there. Even though I had to pay cancellation fee and more money to stay somewhere else I booked a much better room elsewhere. I saw housekeeping crew put rows of pillows and toilet rolls on the filthy hall carpet.

The location was nice within the older part of town, and easy to get to by bicycle, for sure. With supermarkets not far away. The common kitchen and sitting area were small, and taken with group classes, so that was unfortunate . We were happy there was a (small, just for 2 bikes maybe) bicycle store room, but…

…but, even though we’d told the woman who checked us in that we needed our bikes by 8am, and while she said she’d tell the night person we’d be ringing early for the bike-store room to be unlocked, there was no one on site / in attendance. The room where the pager/ringer rang was empty, with all the keys on a bed inside (I could peek in after I realized where the ringer sound was being directed).. I don’t know what would have happened in a real emergency! Another guest was already ringing from 7:30, and then I was ringing and ringing from right before 8. We were quite desperate to check out, get our bikes and be on our way as planned—a long distance for us ahead. Finally at nearly 9am, a gentleman, who maybe was a maintenance person, was on his way out for a smoke and I asked if he worked there, and he was able to get into the room where the keys were. Very frustrating there was no one on duty, but we were grateful in the end for the man.
