Dumas Guest House

Lovely location on a quiet street in the White Town close to the beach. Two good restaurants close by.

The breakfast was dreadful. No choice, no variation. Plain omelette, one slice of toast and a dry croissant all served on the same plate with no serviettes. Had to go to the sink to wash sticky fingers afterwards. Staff were unfriendly bordering on hostile. Only information on check in was a reminder about the check out time! Apparently there is a private stretch of beach for guests but nobody bothered to tell us where it was. Nobody said goodbye when we left or inquired about our stay.

The guest house is very comfortable. The location is good. Breakfast was very good, more than enough.

Perfect location!! I read some complaints about noise from the restaurant/bar across the street (which gets quite good reviews, by the way, we didn't have a chance to go) but our room was in the inner part of the property and enjoyed total silence, even on boisterous New Year's Eve. The property is very well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing, staff very accommodating and kind. Breakfast offers continental and Indian option, which is fine if not amazing. Recommended.

The price was high compared to everywhere else we stayed in Tamil Nadu, but it was also over New Year's and I understand Puducherry is a popular spot to spend the holiday. It's a very good guesthouse but not luxury - mattress was quite thin and uncomfortable, for example, and there are no real amenities. You'll enjoy staying here if you just want a well-located place to sleep, just make sure you don't overpay.

The property is small (6 rooms), friendly and well maintained. It is very well located and their staff is friendly and helpful, especially Balaji, their front of house.

Ours was the room most adjacent to the road / entrance and we found it to be quite noisy. However, Balaji was helpful and offered to move our room as soon as an alternative room became available.
