"Not a good stay"

2.0

Some weeks ago I completed a stay at the Elements Atlanta Midtown , by far my worst stay in years They started by downgrading me from the Standard King I had booked to a substandard room , one that lacked many of the amenities that should have been included. I only found out by accident : at the end of my first day I decided to check the room description because I wasn't sure if breakfast was included . That's when I discovered that my room was missing the wet bar , glasses , dishes , cutlery and the second "comfy" chair. I immediately went down to the front desk to find out what was going on. The lady on duty at the time proceeded to lie to me : she claimed that contrary to the info I had seen on the website only the larger Studio rooms had those amenities. When I insisted she basically said "Prove It!" rather than looking it up on her computer , forcing me to go back to my room and take pictures to satisfy her. Then she told me to come back the next day to speak to a manager. After that first night I talked to the Assistant GM Mr. Karytinos , he said he would try to fix some of the problems (never did) and promised me they would comp. the first night for the inconvenience (they did) . I asked that he send me an e-mail confirming that offer , he said that he soon would (15 minutes is what I remember) , he never did. At the end of that day , I went down to the front desk to get the name of the GM . Mr Caughron happened to be there , we talked and he sent me the confirmation e-mail I wanted but none of the other problems I mentioned where fixed. Other problems : Mini-bar not working properly , reported it to front desk clerk , never fixed in 4 days By contrast the other member of my party who had the same problem had it fixed in 10-15 minutes after they reported it The smoke detector was weird , kept flashing in an unusual pattern and so bright that I could see it thru closed eyes and couldn't sleep properly Reported it to 3 people (General manager , Asst. GM , Front desk) , all promised engineering would look into it . No one ever did. I would really have liked that second "comfy" chair to relax in at the end of the day (insufficient lighting made reading in bed difficult) so really insisted to everyone I talked to (General manager , Asst. GM , 2 different Front desk) Never got one. As a Bonvoy member should have gotten a Welcome Bag , of course I didn't Only found out about that on the last day when I passed thru the lobby and saw the Front Desk handing them out to other guests No housekeeping in the close to 4 days I was there Send an e-mail to Marriot Customer Care because the in-house staff was ignoring me and not doing anything . They said talk to the people at the hotel .I replied that I had talked to them and gotten nowhere . No one bothered to answer and/or follow-up. Of course I could have accepted the change of room that was offered but I wasn't in the mood to spend 2 hours re-packing and un-packing again. Also I believed that they would actually do something to fix some of the issues Frankly the only good things about this hotel were : - It was the only hotel (out of 9) with an in-room safe that trip - Best breakfast of the trip and the breakfast staff was great (as others have mentioned , Kyle is a stand-out) Recommendations : Do not accept rooms ending in 10 to 14 There is a Publix grocery store , on Piedmont , next to the Walgreens . The area is a bit rough , use the one a bit farther : 950 W Peachtree NW St. (at The Plaza Midtown)

The breakfast staff was outstanding! The food was pretty good, rooms were clean.

The water flow from the bathroom faucet was very low.

"New brand has it right"

8.0

I used to enjoy staying at Westin but have found that many of its hotel have not aged too well. But with Element, the simple yet elegant design is back and it’s great. I found the bedding very comfortable. Breakfast is also included, and a step up from other chains with an actual real person cooking food on site, such as to order eggs. This is much better than having pre-cooked food, pre-packaged food delivered. The parking system works well as they issue a pass from the ticket that you get and it is valid for the duration of your stay. And when you drive out and back in the “system” recognizes your car so you don’t need to fiddle with tickets, codes or whatever. The only thing that I did not like is that even when you turn off the heat / AC, you still hear rumbling air and there is still a tiny breeze of freezing air coming from one of the vents. Ideally off should be off. So, a great choice for a stay in Atlanta. As a side note, the midtown area of Atlanta was not too great I found, a bit deserted as opposed to a vibrant downtown.

Expensive parking. Stupid Expensive TV room charge $199 that I don't use or provide authorization and no customer service to dispute the issue. I will NEVER stay there again!
