"Good, bad and ugly"

8.0

THE GOOD Cleanliness, I would go so far as to say exceptionally clean. Food…though a bit pricey, whatever food you’re served is cooked extremely well. Portions are very large so if you’re not big eaters you could get a quesadilla and share it. I just wish there was more variety or “specials” for long stay guests like us. Pool…they have sun block and after sun provided for free. Nice pool bar Staff….are just amazing, helpful and very kind. They will remember your name, even after meeting you just once. Thank you to Mikael, Marisol, Aurora and all the staff who I haven’t mentioned. You are exceptional and made our stay wonderful. NATURE…You’re surrounded by the beauty of this country.. there was a sloth and her baby by the pool, scarlet macaw’s flying around. Mikael at the pool would point out animals as they appeared. You could be swimming and howler monkeys or iguanas would be in the trees. But with no threat to you. I’d wake up at 0530 just to listen to the dawn chorus and the beautiful birds flying around. Take binoculars if you can. You will see the parakeets and macaws sitting in the trees. Room… very clean, great air conditioning. To our liking, the most lovely coffee ever in a hotel, Costa Rican Britta However amenities are limited to shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Don’t expect body lotion or cotton buds, shower cap, etc. Excellent sound proofing. Most days begin for guests at 0530 when breakfast starts as they off on tours, so you can see them but not hear them making their way around. The sound of animals, if it bothers you, just shut the window. THE BAD TOURS..Are very expensive. We did a couple of easy going ones like a half day animal hunting. You can find the prices on their website. Difficult to book and if they’re busy and you ask for a call back, you probably won’t get it. LOCATION….It is remote. About 50 minute flight from San Jose (as of March 2026 around $150 per person on Sansa or Green airways). However, the hotel is literally a hop skip and jump from the airport and they provide a free shuttle service. If you want to go into the town the walk is about 20-30minutes. The other restaurants are not far to walk, about 10 minutes, but the straight road is very dusty, especially if you have scooters and cars passing you kicking up the dust. The hotel charges for their shuttle service to the town, which personally I find not customer friendly if you want to attract customers to the hotel. You can get a taxi or as we did a tuk tuk. We went when it was extremely hot so opted for a car service. DRINKS…The cocktails are weak, and you have to ask them to ramp it up a bit. THE UGLY CROCODILE BAY FISHING. Very very expensive and just not worth it, because of their lack of customer service skills. Their customer service skills are nil. The guy who booked was ok but the captain who took us out was not up to the job. Hardly any conversation. I saw whales in a distance and I wanted confirmation of the sighting and he just said “ yeah they’re whales. While with another fishing outfit we saw them again and the captain sailed right near them so we could have a full whaling experience for free. I’m not an experienced fishing person and he had very very little patience with me. Belittled me for losing a fish. Whilst we understand catching fish is not a given, a good experience is what matters. In the end we spent an extortionate amount of money just for a jolly around the Pacific Ocean with awful food….soggy sandwiches. When the offshore fishing wasn’t going well, we thought it best we try inshore, but he made excuses as to why we shouldn’t go. The hotel attracts groups of men who are on friends fishing trips. Crocodile bay entertains these high spending groups and for this I was very disappointed. The second trip we did was with Hunter Twins. Although, we didn’t have children with us, they advertise they’re child friendly and that’s why I chose them, as I fish like a novice. I was not disappointed. Their customer service was excellent the captain Luiz and first mate Johnathan were just so patient with me. Helped me reel in a sailfish, though they did most of the work and I got the credit. Sailed right up to a family of whales so we could have a look. Pointed out the dolphins, sea snakes etc. took us both inshore and off shore fishing within the same trip so we could experience both. It cost us half of what crocodile bay charged us. The Beach club This really lets down the Hilton brand name and NOT because It’s black sand (so don’t expect a golden sandy beach). But the state of the loungers and there’s not many, few and far between. The sandy area is not well kept, dirty with rubbish. We went by boat to this area and the crew didn’t warn us of the extreme heat of the sand. Some of us took our shoes off (as it’s a wet landing, you get dropped off in the sea, but only ankle deep)it was so incredibly hot I almost got third degree burns under my feet. I was hurting for a day or two after. I suggest the hotel schools their boat crew about this as it’s a health and safety issue. An overall excellent stay and we would like to return again, given the opportunity.

"Avoid if you want to book a national park tour. Extremely poor customer service at front desk and through in house tour operator"

4.0

We booked 3 nights at this hotel for its location and proximity to the Corcovado National Park. It heavily promotes it's national park tours (arranged through it's own In-house tour operator Crocodile Bay Tours, with a desk in the main lobby ) as the main attraction for staying on its website. On booking we received an email detailing the tours available and how to make contact with the front desk/ tour desk, who are both meant to be able to arrange tours. No mention was made of the need to book in advance. Despite booking our stay more than 4 weeks in advance we attempted on several occasions to call with no answer. We sent 3 emails to the hotel and the tour desk, again with no response prior to arrival. On arrival we were told that no tours of any kind (national Park or otherwise) were available. The front desk apologised for their error but made no effort to help us out. The Crocodile Bay Tours representative was less than useless and merely told us that no tours were available and that he had no solution. In the end we were forced to make our own arrangements through an amazing local tour firm (Corcovado Hiking Tours) but sadly did not get to see Corcovado as one needs a minimum of 24 hours notice. Sadly Botanika Osa does not deliver on its promises. The rooms are nice, although clearly people do not come to Osa for a resort experience. Crocodile Bay tours (the in house tour company) is utterly useless. Despite tours and park access being available, they refused to even make the effort to search, whereas an external operator was able to book a tour for us at short notice. The Hilton clearly needs to improve it's communication on tour availability at the point of booking and should certainly seek to partner with another tour operator who cares about customer service. People travel to the beautiful Osa Peninsula for national park tours. The incompetence and poor customer service at the Hilton and Crocodile Bay tours made our visit far less enjoyable. If you want a resort hotel it is fine but is clearly a shared timeshare resort with rented apartments. However if you want to see the surrounding area, avoid the hotel, or engage the services of an external tour company well in advance.

"Beautifull place, should improve their breakfast"

9.0

Beautifull hotel + staff

Breakfast- basic. The children only had 1 option from the menu. At the buffet there are no fruits, no cheese, no vegetables, only cakes and bread. No healthy options at the buffet, everything had +++ sugar. Cappuccino is not included.

"A truly special place"

10.0

Botanika is pure magic. I came back again and it amazed me even more than the first time. The food is incredible, the restaurant is beautiful, and the rooms feel like a dream. The staff and customer service are amazing as well. I truly love everything about this place and will always look forward to coming back and bringing others to experience it.

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable experience surrounded by nature"

10.0

Our stay at Botánika Osa Peninsula, Curio Collection by Hilton was simply outstanding. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. The hotel perfectly blends the comfort of a high-quality resort with the wild beauty of the Osa Peninsula. The rooms are spacious, modern, and extremely comfortable—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the area. Every detail feels thoughtfully designed, and you can clearly see the property’s commitment to sustainability and the surrounding natural environment. The dining experience was also a highlight. Fresh ingredients, beautifully presented dishes, and local flavors truly elevate the experience. The team was also incredibly helpful in organizing rainforest tours and activities around the Golfo Dulce. One of the most special aspects of the hotel is its connection with nature. It’s common to see birds, monkeys, and other wildlife around the property, which makes the experience feel authentic and unique. If you’re looking for a place that combines luxury, nature, and genuine Costa Rican hospitality, this is absolutely it. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended for travelers who love nature, adventure, and relaxation. 🌿🌊✨
