It was a nice hotel however out of the way for activities and excursions. Getting there was scary at night as there are no lights on the road leading to the resort

The service, the staff, the food in the area

The property was beautiful. However, it’s very isolated so the only dining options available are on the property. The pricing for the restaurants were way more than we expected for the quality of food served. Even when paying in USD, the average price was $30-40 for a course. Even the more “casual restaurants” were expensive and the food was underwhelming. The hotel was gorgeous, but probably won’t be returning due to the dining options.

I wish I could give this 1000 stars. The best resort, service & location I have ever encountered in all my travels . Sofitel baru ia a true oasis, you arrive by boat and there are no other resorts - nothing but jungle for miles. We felt like we were on White Lotus lol. The staff is unmatched , attentive & sweet. The resort itself never felt crowded , we would see maybe 4 others groups during the day . Always had loungers at beach or pool. The grounds & the room were to die for , the height of luxury . Would go again and again.

Love this properly! I so beautiful!! Customer service is excellent and the food delicious!

This resort is

This is the 4th year in a row that my mother and I have vacationed at Sofitel Calablanca in Barú, Colombia. We first stayed there shortly after the hotel opened in 2022, and we loved it so much we have come back every year since. This year did not disappoint! As the resort has grown over the years it has maintained the same beautiful beach, peaceful days, and delicious food. There were many more people than there have been in previous years, and yet it never felt crowded. They have a fantastic Kid’s Playhouse and activities for children (although we did not partake as it was just my mother and I, we walked by the playroom each day and always saw kids having a great time). They also have water activities, like a Fliteboard (imagine a paddle board and a hoverboard in one), kayaks, jet skis, and paddle boards, but they never made the beach feel overwhelmed or unsafe. The beach itself is stunning, with clear, warm water that has nothing but a few fish and the occasional strand of sea grass. It is easy to pass hours floating in the ocean or talking to others in the water. There are always plenty of lounges, and staff members come around throughout the day offering water to drink, mini smoothies, fruit kabobs, and other treats. You can also order drinks and food from the beach bar or from the food truck. The food truck (El Mangalito) is located on the beach itself with plenty of tables and chairs as well as couches and comfy chairs to sit on, and you can walk over at any time and have lunch or a drink that way as well. If you ever tire of the beach, there are several pools to choose from, all with beautiful views and none that ever get too crowded. The food at Sofitel Calablanca is wonderful. Although all the restaurants are good, my mother and I discovered after our very first year that we preferred the seafood restaurant the most, called Bahía. For the third year in a row we ate at Bahía every single night, sitting at the bar (which was our preference), getting to talk to the wonderful staff. In addition to all of the amazing servers at Bahía (really, they are all the absolute sweetest people), we really got to know Jorge, our bartender. Every night we were there he took care of us, making sure we had whatever we needed. He even made a special cocktail just for us! On our last night, Jorge made sure we met the head chef, and took a picture with everyone who had helped make our vacation so wonderful. We were also lucky enough to get to eat at Bahía when they had Mama Luz (a well known Colombian chef) take over for a special night of traditional Colombian food (Jorge made a special cocktail for that night as well—quite the artist!). I literally cannot say enough kind things about Bahía and the people who work there. The food is just fantastic (and we’re from NYC—so we’re particular!). One more thing about the food: BREAKFAST. Make sure you get breakfast included with your stay. The breakfast buffet at Sofitel is the best way to start the day, from the freshest fruit to the pastries and breads, to the omelette bar, to the traditional Colombian dishes. There is literally something for everyone (seriously: from lucky charms to carimañolas to pistachio croissants and everything in between!). Last but not least, the rooms are beautiful and clean, an every single one has a stunning oceanfront view. It’s completely silent and cool until you open the sliding door to the porch, which lets in the sounds of the birds and the gentle crashing waves. I miss it every single day that I’m not there. I kid you not: I literally cried when I came home (take me back!). I love Sofitel Calablanca in Barú

Very nice hotel, lovely food in Humo, enjoyed our time at the beach with 18 month old baby. Staff very helpful and responsive, especially Cristian who helped us with checkout.
