The Horton Hotel and Rooftop Lounge

Perfect spot in walking distance to everything!

This was our first stay and definitely won’t be our last. All the goodness of downtown is just steps away. Loved sitting on the rooftop, sipping a cold drink, and listening to the marching band practice in the stadium.

The Horton hotel is my favorite place to stay in Boone. We came up for a show and were able to walk everywhere. We showed up a little bit early and they allowed us to check in, everything was clean, nice toiletries, perfect location. We had a great time on the rooftop bar. The two fantastic bartenders even stayed up with us when it started to rain a little. Just a wonderful stay!

It's a great location, with all the downtown restaurants within two blocks, and some "interesting" rooms fitted into an historic building. There's lots of action on the rooftop bar just an elevator ride away. We stayed in one of the two front rooms on the top floor, which have great views of the action on King Street below, the Jones House with it's yard and massive trees across the street, and Howard's Knob beyond. Be aware that the other rooms have much less interesting views, and many have no windows at all, so book with the hotel directly and read the descriptions of each room carefully to book one that suits your needs. The free continental breakfast is quite good, with fresh fruit sliced to order, the local Stick Boy bakery's great pastries, and a few other items. The "premium" breakfast items offered at extra cost seems unappealing, so we didn't try any of them. There are also some interesting breakfast places within a block's walk. We were unimpressed by a self-proclaimed "boutique" hotel that features those nice robes prominently on it's website then fails to have them in the room. When we asked the desk clerk about them she spent half an hour looking and managed to find one. Parking is provided at a gravel lot a block or so behind the hotel, but you may have luck stopping at the loading zone in front to drop your bags before parking. Be aware that there is a mandatory $25 fee for the "free" breakfast, parking, and the other advertised amenities. While many hotels have such hidden fees, we're not fans of what seems to us like bait and switch tactics.

Boutique hotel that is most unusual (in a good way!). Very comfortable and beautifully appointed room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast selections were quite good, and the rooftop bar is a comfortable space to enjoy our favorite adult beverages. We were traveling on vacation and wanted a truly unique experience that far exceeds the usual chain hotel. The Horton delivered! (Also, the Boone restaurant scene far exceeds the usual chain restaurants as well. The hotel staff recommended "The Local" and it didn't disappoint.)

Great location in downtown Boone NC. Rooftop bar nice. Room was very nice. Two things not so great.1) No window at least in our room. 2) paying for parking in a gravel lot down behind hotel across a street. A good 100 yard walk up hill to get to hotel.over all I would still give a 3.5 out of 5 rating.

Fantastic experience at the Horton. All the staff were wonderful, breakfast was delicious with fresh pastries and fruit. The room was very comfortable, so nice to stay in something other than a cookie cutter hotel, tastefully decorated and clean throughout. The rooftop bar was fantastic and having all this in easy walking distance of everything in Boone made for a totally enjoyable Memorial weekend in Boone.
