voco Auckland City Centre by IHG

Us exceptionally disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The room was fine, the water pressure good, and the water hot. The bed was comfortable and I could regulate the temperature to my liking. The location was even good, near the central business district and the waterfront, so those are the positives. However, when I checked in with the two levels of status, Platinum Elite and Ambassador with IHG, all that was offered was twenty percent off of food and drink, which they offer any member of the loyalty programs, a couple of chocolates, and one free drink. What's the point of having status?If there's no benefit? They did, however, upgrade my free drink to free breakfast for my stay, which was nice, but also expected. That said, the breakfast buffet was one of the weakest buffets that i've encountered in the more than fifty countries that i've traveled to. Certainly, it did not fit the standard of a 4 or 5 star hotel, which the Voco purports to be. The selection was average, presentation below average, and trying to get a flat white was the worst. Management needs to create a scenario where, when there's a breakfast rush, which there is probably every morning, that they have two machines cranking out the coffees that people so desire. Or, as in the case of some of the hotels I've been in, a self service espresso/latte machine. I would add here that when the flat wipe is served to you it does not come with a little spoon and sugar, these you have to hunt for yourself. All in all, I probably would have given this hotel an average, 3 star, rating for my stay at a upper end hotel, except for the breakfast buffet, which was totally disappointing.

Great stay, and offered late checkout and discount at the rooftop bar when signing up which was awesome! Awesome views from the rooftop bar. Reception staff really friendly and helpful

I was here for 6 days. Beautiful property, very friendly and accommodating staff. I have zero complaints. The room was very clean (and the bathroom which I’m a stickler about) This was also some of the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had as well. 10/10. Will be back

Post Cruise Hotel for 2 nights before travelling home and we were assigned a room on the top 37th Floor that had "forever" views. Room was excellent although didn't like the frosted glass window of toilet, in a fairly open bathroom. Staff were terrific especially the way they handled a total influx of travellers all arriving at the same time as we had all come off cruise at same time - there would have been roughly 100 people - a lot of people.... Had breakfast the following morning and it was reasonably priced and food was good. Overall an excellent stay and would recommend

The location of the hotel is perfect to explore Auckland, it is in walking distance of nice shops and the coast line. The rooms are very nice, with excellent beds. Bathroom is very nice too. We had breakfast here, and there is a great buffet, with coffee made on request (good cappucino). Only remark: the carpet in the breakfast area is really dirty, and that is in big contrast with the rest of the hotel. We stayed on the 37th floor, and had a wonderful view on the city I also want to mention that all staff was very friendly and made you feel welcome. I will come back here if I return to Auckland. What is a bit strange: there is also a Holiday Inn Express in the same building. It has a separate entry, and uses goes from ground level to 20th floor. In the Voco, the rooms start at 21st floor. (So you know why there is a gap :-))

Great hotel and location

A lovely place to stay, just a short walk from the shopping center, with a breathtaking view. The only downside was that they didn’t refill the water.

Hotel is adequate, but nothing special. The location is convenient for downtown. The room was not as clean as I would expect.

Great location and great service in the heart of the CBD. The cost value of the hotel is very good. The view was amazing. The best way to start our journey in the country.

We just stayed two nights at the Voco Auckland City Centre, and enjoyed the experience. We originally booked the Holiday Inn Express, but on arrival, as IHG members, were offered an upgrade to a room in the Voco instead. It was a busy week in Auckland (a lot of visitors due to Chinese New Year and Waitangi Day holidays, I suspect), and it seems that the Holiday Inn Express was overbooked. Nevertheless, our luggage was transferred to the lobby of the Voco next door, and the checkin experience went smoothly. Upon arrival at our room on the 32nd floor, we were impressed with the view--the city centre and Sky Tower from the bedroom, and the harbour from the bathroom window. The amenities, bed and bathroom were fine, and the room was large enough for two people to relax in. As we had originally booked with the Holiday Inn Express, we were offered free breakfast, although I think that normally would not have been the case here. The selection and quality of the food was good. Outside of breakfast, the dining space is converted to an Italian restaurant, Mozzarella's, which we didn't have the chance to try. The central location in Auckland was great for reaching attractions in the city centre and harbour areas, but as some reviewers have pointed out, the hills in that part of the city can be steep, as the climb on Wyndham Street from Queen Street was (I didn't mind that, but others might). The service at the hotel was friendly and helpful, and I would be glad to stay here if am ever again in Auckland.
