Maybe more toilet facilities for women

The Commercial Travellers House in Gulgong was not good value for money, I think $90 instead of $120 would have been more aligned to other similar pub-rooms and even then the result was disappointing: • There was only 1 toilet and one shower over bath for women (10 rooms in the House). I really don’t mind shared facilities but most pub-hotels have very, very generous toilet and shower facilities. • The bath plug was ancient and couldn’t even hold the water in. I then found that the water had infact somehow leaked down and back up outside the bath through the bathroom floor drain, flooding the bathroom floor! • The was a small kettle provided in my room, but the only source of water was (for me) at the far end of the L shaped corridor; the awkart tap of the toilet sink. This is a hygiene issue and also the kettle didn’t even fit underneath the tap! • Most Pub-hotels offer a guest lounge/kitchen with sink and taps, where guests can make a cup of tea and maybe pop a meal in the microwave and clean up after themselves. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but practical. In conclusion, it is not enough to just rely on the easthetics of being a 19th Century building; you do need to meet certain hospitality standards, especially to charge $120 per night.

I liked the cleanliness and the location of the hotel

I didn't like that I couldn't get into the place when I arrived and I had to search for another pub in order to get the key. There were no staff on site. The female toilets weren't really that lockable. The TV in my room didn't work either. I was hoping that I could warm up my takeaway meal when I arrived in my room but there was only a fridge and a kettle. I had to fast for the night.

The staff at check in were very friendly.

A little expensive considering I had to share a bathroom. But it was clean and tidy.

The room was fine, and the staff were nice.

I didn't like that the property waited until after the free cancellation period and debited my credit card and only then contacted me and said there was work happening on the verandah on boxing day and we couldn't stay there but they transferred us to their other motel across the road. I wish they were a bit more honest and had contacted me earlier and I would of had the option to book elsewhere at a place of my choosing. We did not see anyone working on the verandah at the Commercial Travellers during our stay.
