Hotel Ulysses, a Member of Design Hotels

This was our second visit to the Ulysses, which we found charming the first time. We like the decor, the dim, moody light throughout the building and in rooms, and the friendly staff. But we didn't get much sleep, and there were several small inconveniences. We didn't sleep because our room was overheated. We woke up at 3:30am, and it was 78 degrees. But the Ulysses won't let you control the temperature in your room. And there's no phone in your room, so you have to text a number from your own phone or use a phone in the hall. We texted, no answer (granted, it was 3:30am). Down to the front desk, but no one there. Call the text number, eventually someone emerges. She says she has to ask a maintenance man to adjust our HVAC, but he's out to lunch. An hour of texts and waiting ensued, but we never were able to adjust the temperature, so we slept very little. It's hard to do a little work or read a book in your room, since there's no task lighting, no desk, and no chair. There's no coffee maker or hot water heater in rooms. The front desk said they could lend us an espresso maker, but they had none. When we went to the restaurant for breakfast at 8:30am, no one greeted us so we just sat down. Nearby a couple guys were working on laptops. After about 10 minutes, one of them came over and mentioned that a waiter would come by eventually, but he was "working on something". The hotel had newspapers hanging up, but they were old. When a waiter eventually appeared, he didn't write down our order, and we got wrong items. It's a pretty place with friendly staff, but we won't be coming back.

I did not do breakfast. An entrance to facilitate patrons with luggage would be helpful in lieu of having to lift heavy luggage up the steep front granite stone steps. A grab-bar mounted on the shower wall also would be helpful to assist the elderly as I am.

Well appointed small rooms, sweet bathrooms, good location for hitting the spots in town. The bar is really Kool. Food top drawer.

Fantastic design! The interiors are lush and beautifully curated, and the signature scent throughout is delicious.

The shower/sink is separate from the toilet in the room, and it is annoying to go between to wash hands, throw away trash, etc. The lighting features are lovely, but dim, so it can be hard to get a good look when needed.

Great experience, would go again.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my stay. This trip probably ruined my boutique hotel experience.

Wonderful boutique hotel located in the heart of Baltimore, close to a wide variety of attractions in the Inner Harbor and Mount Vernon. If you are looking for an exciting unique experience distinct from typical hotel experience, this place is definitely worth a visit. The rooms, bar, and restaurant are classically elegant and beautiful. They don't have an onsite gym but a great perk is that you can use the gym at MV fitness which also provides a great unique experience - working out at a beautiful classical building. I would highly recommend this place.

Great old-school hotel feel, with modern flair. Friendly staff and an interesting, convenient neighborhood.
