The Avanti Houses

I never stayed there. I was unable to check in on the first day. And then I ran into some issues that evening which prevented me from returning. So I paid for the three days and never stayed there

We liked the price but we ate the cost and didn’t end up staying. Got a room elsewhere.

This is essentially a hostel that is made into some sort of museum. And maybe it says that on the website but I just went by what the booking app said so we were uncomfortable and disappointed with the entire situation, lots of house rule about shoe wearing and quiet time observances. There are actually two houses referenced in the photos in the posting for the one listing but only the one house front pictured. The room we ended up in was not even pictured in the posting so it was hard to know what room we were ending up in when the selection was made. I reached out to staff about our not staying sighting inconsistencies in the post and wasn’t even offered a partial refund just told the app wouldn’t let them post separate locations. I would think that’s where one would go ahead and makes two separate post but what do I know.

The house was quite large and easy to maneuver. No stove but there is a hot plate, microwave, and toaster oven in the kitchen. Not a lot of cookware, bowls, etc. but enough to make due. I like to cook so that was a little disappointing but like I said, it was sufficient to make due. It would be nice if there were a recliner and couch in the living room area to make it more comfy. There is a small love seat and chair. Not a place to sit back and watch tv. My room was lovely. Nice comfy bed and a desk for working at. The full bath was adequate. Really cool stuff around the house if you like the Avanti history. Very clean and owner was very responsive to any requests made. I would definitely plan to stay again. I felt safe during my stay as a single lady.

It is a very unique place to stay and enjoyed the museum part of the house.

Loved it. Comfy had a great time. Kinda sounds stupid but you can tell alot about a place by the toilet paper they buy. (They did not have cheap tp)

The theme of the house was very neat with the old car collectibles. Very easy to enter & leave, not too far from downtown. Good for visiting South Bend, I would definitely book again.

Quaint and charming, the Avanti House is a hidden gem in South Bend hotels. I plan to return again soon!

The distance to the stadium was great the beds were comfortable, it was quiet

The shower was dirty there was mold on the walls and disgusting red scum on the shower curtain. Everything else was fine but something needs to be done with that shower I won't put this anywhere else this is between us because I'm not going to hurt you.

Interesting place. Kind of funky and eclectic. I felt like I was staying at my grandmother's house. The floors were creaky and I had a half bath off of my room with a shared full bath. I wasn't crazy about the shared full bath option, my room was kind of interesting and had lots of posters of the Studebaker sky hawk. I was pretty comfortable, but did not have a TV in my room which I kind of missed. Glad I only had one night there.

This home was built in 1890 so it doesn't have a lot of modern amenities, but once you understand you are essentially staying within a "museum" you can only enjoy the ambiance, artwork, furniture, items and artifacts virtually everywhere. And the owner, Don, has a pristine Avanti car in his garage that he is very proud of and willing to show you! I would most definitely return!
