We love McMenamins and this one was a gem! Wish we could have stayed longer. They closed the bar early (boo :( ) but we get it! It was a Thursday night, but the bar tender let us take it to our room! We will be back!

"Great Night in Portland!"

10.0

We had a great stay here over our spring break holiday! The hotel is above the saloon but we really did not hear much noise coming from the downstairs. This could be because we visited during time of COVID but the saloon was open. The bedroom was small but very clean. The bathrooms and showers are shared spaces and are located in the hallway but this also was not a problem for us. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and they provided sanitizing materials if you wanted to sanitize the space before doing your business. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel itself well decorated and true to its roots! We highly recommend staying here as long as you don't mind shared spaces!

"Great deal, clean bedding, and SOOOOO haunted!"

8.0

Wonderful staff, such a cool and vibe bar with great food. Our only night in the hotel , room 3, was the most haunted experience of my life! The loudest noises of boots running down the hardwood floor in hallway all night long. Except the floors are carpeted, so it shouldn’t be so loud. Seriously, all the ghost hunters should absolutely stay here! Plan on being awake most of night.

"Stopped by during the weekend of my Son's wedding. Great atmosphere"

Ambiance was incredible. Food matches the location. Attended Pink Martini concert which made the evening memorable. Very crowed due to concert. Staff was very accommodating even though busy. Par 3 golf was lots of fun. Book early so you get a room with a private bath!!

"Weekend in Portland"

10.0

We stayed at the White Eagle for a very fun weekend in Portland. This was our 3rd stay at a McMenamins, and we loved it! The check-in process was smooth and our room was very comfortable. We loved having the chance to go downstairs and enjoy the live music on the Saturday night. The proximity to the MAX light rail stop was a huge bonus, as we bought day passes on the Sunday and spent our day exploring downtown.

"Step back in time"

8.0

If you want an experience perhaps stay here. It feels like you got to stay above the saloon when you pulled up in your wagon, steep stairs. Toilets down the hall. Showers separate and spartan. No robes. Minimal soundproofing. But it’s fun with the right attitude, it oozes funky old cowboy vibe, it’s clean. The sink in your room is really great.onky one block from transit, walking distance to funky Mississippi district. Great bands in saloon. Keep a good attitude. No hotel staff after bar closes so don’t lose your key.

"Small Gem Hidden Between the Freeways"

10.0

My friend and I shyed away from this place because of reviews that said it is" Very noisy", "Don't expect to get much sleep", "Loud and late nights" Well, I beg to differ. We were amazed at how quiet the location of the hotel is. We had a wonderful, quiet (yes, QUIET), and restful two nights. We did stay up late(Halloween) but had no problem sleeping in. Location was great (we love to walk), the employees were fantastic, and the band they had the second night was really good. Also liked the small and quaintness of the White Eagle . Glad we finally took the leap and stayed. FUN, FUN, FUN.

"Room 2: A Night In Paris"

10.0

I wanted to stay at the White Eagle Saloon Hotel and thought reserving a room early would be a smart idea. You see, the hotel only has 11 rooms. And I was afraid that they might get booked rather quickly, especially around Valentine’s Day. I also thought that I’d better do a little research first so that I wasn’t just blindly booking a room and not knowing what to expect. I wanted to know type beds were in certain rooms. I wanted to know what the rooms looked like. And how it felt to be in them. You see, I had paranormal intentions in mind. So I drove out to the White Eagle Saloon and indicated that I was interested in booking a room, but wanted to know a bit more about the rooms and what they are like. What kind of beds some of them had. The chap working behind the bar took an interest right away, “Would you like to see the rooms?” I smiled, “That would be great!” so he led me outside and he opened the door leading up the stairs to the second floor of the building. We walked into a few of the rooms. And then he returned to the bar and left me to explore on my own. A young cleaning woman happened to be at work in Room 2. So we chatted about that room and a few of the others. This was a great help. I could see that rooms 1 and 2 had queen size beds. Then I asked her about the haunted rooms. Room 2 and 3 didn’t bother her. It was room 6, SPACEMAN, that concerned her. A room that I knew absolutely nothing about. I arched an eyebrow, “Tell me about room 6.” A look of concern crossed her face “It’s the event room!” I frowned, “Event Room? What kind of events?” She continued. “Bad things happen in that room.” Now I looked concerned. “Bad things?” She elaborated. Well, Someone committed suicide in that room. And strange things happen in there.” That made up my mind right away. “I’ll avoid that room in that case.” I thanked her for her help and walked down the stairs and into the Saloon. I asked the charming, and very helpful, chap behind the bar about booking the room that I wanted. He said that they don’t actually do the booking at the White Eagle. That is done at Mcmenamins Kennedy School and that I could just call them up and book the room over the phone. I told him, “It’s on my way home, I’ll just stop by in person.” And that is exactly what I did shortly after I left the White Eagle Saloon. I walked up to the hotel desk inside Kennedy School and said that I was interest in a particular room. I mentioned the date I wanted to book the room for. And asked, “Is room 2 available?” The chap sitting at the desk looked it up. “Yes, it’s available on that date.” I made a snap decision. “Good, I’ll book it right now.” So he got all my details. Reversed it for me and I was all set. Just that easy. Just like that. Room 2, SAM, “A Night In Paris” was a nice cozy room. It was well lit from the widows facing N. Russell Street. A small round table sat next to the window. Between that and the door into the room was a classic old porcelain sink and mirror above it. There was a queen sized bed. A closet with a fan inside sitting on the floor. And whimsical artwork on the walls around the room. On the street side wall there was a brunette lady in a red dress with a wine glass in one hand and lifting her skirt slightly with the other. Over the head of the bed there was a small Eiffel Tower and there were words of verse spanning from the street side wall, over the bed, and ending way over by the closet door wall. On the wall with the classic old porcelain sink there was a rooster. The room had WiFi (“mcmenamins” with no pass code). The only real downside of the rooms at the White Eagle Hotel is the fact that they are rather noisy when bands are playing down in the Saloon below them. But for me that wasn’t an issue at all. I’m a night owl and always up late at night anyway. When I did go to bed, after the band had stopped playing and the saloon had close for the night, I slept just fine. In fact it was the best nights sleep that I’ve had in a very long time. Better than I sleep at home. The room felt so comfortable and relaxing. I got very tired and fell asleep in no time at all. If the room was haunted by Sam Worek, he left me alone. I had no spectral visitations at all during my stay. The Hotel is much like some European places I’ve stayed at. The bathrooms and showers are common private ones just down the hall. Not in the rooms. There is also a MAX lite rail Yellow line station about two blocks south of the Hotel. So you can drive here or you can use public transport. There is also a Tri-Met bus stop on N. Russell. I quite enjoyed my stay at the White Eagle Hotel, and probably will do so again. Next time I’ll book Room 3, BIRDSONG. That way I can claim that I have stayed in a couple of the haunted rooms. That would be Rose’s room.

"Historic Saloon featuring good food, drink and live music in a laid-back neighborhood"

10.0

An evening listening to Luke Winslow King's delta blues and rock-a-billy demanded a trip to The White Eagle Saloon. This place has been serving locals for the past 112 years. Nice selection of craft beers, wine and hard liquor. Bar food offers great sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads and lighter fare (after all, this is Portland!). I had the traditional Greek gyro with a side salad. The Gyro was the freshest I have ever eaten. Delicious! The raised stage at the back of the saloon sports exceedingly great sound quality. Indeed, the White Eagle is famous as a live music bar. The proverbial working girls are long gone, along with Polish dock workers, although it is still within walking distance of the Union Pacific rail yards. Very diverse community of upbeat people.

"Eclectic"

8.0

Fun and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Food was good, band playing that night in the saloon was great, and it was an easy walk to the Wonder Ballroom for the concert we were here for. Customer service was EXCELLENT from start to finish in all areas - restaurant, bar, hotel staff. The only drawback was there wasn't much in the neighborhood to do; it's still very industrial.
