Kalani Oceanside Retreat

Perfect place and not too far from Hilo airport. Large unit, beautiful nature around. Attentive personnel. Nice bungalow wood style.

The sliding panoramic window locker did not work, so my unit was factually opened. However, nothing was lost. I would also paid more attention to spiders on the porch of the units since there were a pretty big websabove the window that made it slightly uncomfortable to seat outside the unite on the porch to observe a nature.

Lots of lizards in room. So, keep that in mind. The resort is kept super natural which means lots of tall grasses everywhere. It is 1.5 hrs from volcano.

Personally think it is the best location on the big island! Away from hotels, resorts, and rental homes but a retreat stay itself. Love how close it is to the Kehena black sand beach and the vibe in this area is truly peaceful & quite! Immersed in the green environment I woke up to the sunrise by the sea! Amazing! The staff here are super chill and nice but help me whenever is needed! It seems like everyone here including the staff and the guests all enjoyed themselves as the vibe is jut too good! I lost my stuff there and called them to help me find it. It was one of my favorite and memorable experiences staying on the big island. I love it here and will be back next time!

Since it is within a natural environment and as a retreat, you would be expecting some "visitors" from nature, I had a cockroach sneak into my luggage at night time and it does disturb me a bit. I found some alcohol spray left over on the shelf and used it to get it away. But I don't think it is the retreat to blame - it is just how it is! If you are someone who is very particular about a hotel's standard living conditions, this might not be for you. However, I do suggest if the retreat could prepare some supplies for this, it would be great! Also, the retreat doesn't have hot food served but has a nice little cafe place for snacks. The closest spot for food is more like a 15 - 20 min drive. So make sure you grab some food before settling into the retreat.

The experience of staying at Kalani Oceanside Retreat was very relaxing and beautiful. We enjoyed the yoga class we signed up for very much. The people we encountered, both guests and staff, were great to talk with. The cottage we stayed at had lots of room and we had a fabulous view of the ocean and grounds around us.

The location and atmosphere can't be beat. The area was very lush and gorgeous, and we could see the sunrise over the beach from our patio (and showers!). The cottages, each an individual standalone unit, had a wonderful rustic decor, with plenty of windows to enjoy the scenery. The establishment is not kidding about the lack of connectivity though: I couldn't connect to the complimentary wifi, and I had only emergency calls and no data through my Verizon provider. But if you want to go off the grid, this is the place! It was very quiet and peaceful at night, except for the coqui frogs. Some find their incessant chirp annoying, but I enjoyed it as part of the atmosphere. I wish I could have stayed longer, and I'll definitely be back if I have the opportunity.

No pool & Jacuzzi anymore? WTF REALLY the only reason I stay at Kalani. Seriously disappointed! What happened and why would guests not have pool access??

We like the quiet and the view from the cabin, the cabin is beautiful inside and outside.

A lot of geckos inside the room, the bathtub was a little dirty as the vanity, also the towels provide do not smell good. Has to improve a little on that.
