The Old Butchers Cottage

The property was well set out and maintained, there was plenty of space in all areas, and the beds were super comfy! It is well located for the town and areas of interest. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need (and more!). Communication from/with the owners was exceptional, and we had a lovely welcome hamper on arrival. check in and out was simple and seamless. Fantastic place to stay as a base to explore Matlock, would definitely recommend and return.

Very cold on arrival. Packet of tablets found down side of the bed. Cobwebs above bed and dust along the headboards. Hair band found under another bed.

Layout worked well for our group. Quiet location

Issue with en suite shower leaking into lounge below, smell of damp and mould patches in main bathroom.

Good location, close to centre of Matlock. Great, warm hot tub. Nice decor.

Plaster looks newly laid and salting in places. Ensuite shower leaked into living room. Just missing a few ‘lived in’ finishing touches (coffee tables, hooks on the backs of doors etc). The shower gel and shampoo dispensers were empty. One car park space only big enough for a small car and on street parking was a bit of a pain.

Everything we needed for a few days away. Quiet cosy cottage. Lovely setting overlooking Matlock. Hot tub was welcome after long walks. Lots of information provided by the hosts about the area, food, restaurants, places to visit.

Fire didn’t work which was a real shame! No light outside which is dangerous after using the hot tub! Some bits let it down rusty shelf, ripped Lino in en-suite but didn’t effect our stay and was lovely and clean

The cottage was lovely, the bedrooms comfortable, the kitchen large and well stocked and the heating worked well once it went on.

Two of our party got very unwell and there was no flexibility to move our booking. I know those are the Ts and C's but out of season you would think you could show some reasonableness. I went to the cottage alone. Secondly, I couldn't make the gas fire work😞 I spent over an hour trying to follow the instructions very carefully and I got no response from the manager of the property until the next morning when it was too late and even then I was just told to follow the instructions. Finally the garden furniture was in a very poor state. Due to being alone I didn't use the hot tub but the garden area was very uninviting.

Matlock was nice. Parking a bit difficult but we did have a large vehicle.

Property was damp. Wallpaper peeling off in places. Hot tub only a few jets working. Garden had rocks falling from wall so unsafe if you have children. Outside light not working and hasn’t been since last visitors same as hot tub.
