The Rising Sun

Ideally situated for us this weekend. The bed not the best but very friendly and helpful staff and a good breakfast.

The whole of the personnel at THE RISING SUN worked as a team to make our stay [my wife and I] a memorable one from our welcome with a beaming smile on Wedensday just after 2 to our departure today [Friday] just before 10. On our first evening there were two problems with our room - a faulty light and curtains that let the light in BUT BOTH were immediately fixed to everyone's satisfaction - fabulous! Breakfasts were served on time and the chef was very understanding about our requirements. The lady cleaner was very thorough in what she did - why do say that? Because as a former science teacher observation is very important and I still can't stop observing what's going on around me!! Sorry if that sounds as if i'm a nosey-parker!! I had to attend a meeting of the Monmouthshrie Railway Society where I had a word with its President about the committee discussing and recommending the possibility of any guest speakers that requried overnight accommodation staying at The Rising Sun, Rogerstone, Newport as a result of our more than satisfactory two night stay. A very pleasant setting and although there was much traffic on the road outside especially during the morning rush-hour - there was NO NOISE from it - super! I've attached a few quick photos of the TWIN-BEDDED room [Room 2] which had plenty of draws and cupboards for us! Please copy this review to ALL at THE RISING INN - they ALL deserve praise! Firstly, as this is important for me, gluten free options have to be requested before visit, but there is no guarantee it will be seen. It’s a spotlessly clean hotel, with friendly and welcoming staff. The rooms are big and try to choose the more comfortable bed for a better nights sleep, however the better bed is like sleeping on top of a plate of jelly. We ate out, due to limited gluten free options. Everything is cooked in one fryer, including ‘vegan’ food! Nothing is actually gluten free or vegan. The breakfast is basic but good. It’s a plated cooked breakfast, cereal and toast. It does the job. It’s a pleasant hotel and I will probably go back, the staff are lovely and want to make your stay as good as possible.

Although an older property, the room was very clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was great and Jane was very friendly and welcoming. I’ll definitely stay again if in the area.

Staff were very friendly facilities clean bed comfortable and thats as good as it got evening meal very poor as was breakfast room small and noisy from road and quiz held in bar below( 7-9)our room sorry to say not a good experience and wouldn't stay there again

Ideal for me as it was few minutes from my friends easy to find.everything very good value. Food and service excellant. As I was on my own I was looked after by manager and staff. Highly reccomended

Very nice stay here for one night, staff very friendly . Room was big and clean, bed was very comfortable Didn’t have food but did have breakfast that was lovely Would return in the future Ron Clark

Hotel is very convenient for Cardiff. Hosts were lovely and couldnt do enough for you. Room was comfortable and breakfast was amazing. Will definitely stay here again if I am in that area.
