"Nice for a few days"

Very nice one bedroomed apartment on the outskirts of whitby. We'll equipped and comfortable. Great for a short break.

No real issues, 20 minute walk to whitby town centre but no issues

"Lovely"

9.0

Lovely house in a quiet housing estate with private parking.

Distance to the town centre. There was a shortcut which cut a good bit off the walk but it could only be used in good weather if it rained it turned into a mud track.

"Very good"

8.0

The property has its own allocated parking space, which was very handy as we hardly used the car once there. It's only a ten minute walk into Whitby town centre. The property was clean and tidy, and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook for yourself rather than go out.

There was no washing machine. We didn't find this a problem, but if you needed to wash some clothes I'm not sure where you'd find a launderette.

"Nice quiet stay with very clean facilities and great parking."

Quiet location with easy parking.

We would like a better mattress and there was no corkscrew.

"Excellent and cosy apartement"

10.0

We liked everything. We had absolutely everything for our comfortable stay from comfy beds, equipped kitchen to very cosy and home like style, for example nice decorations, warm fluffy blankets. And extra bonus - several board games made our evenings especially pleasant.

This was our first time when we booked Host&Stay appartement, and because it was a private company, the booking process was different from what we usually used to have through booking.com. Usually there was straigh away process without any additional deposit or endless emails. For this particular booking there were quite many emails about payment details plus we needed to put additional (damage or something like this) deposit of 250 pounds prior our stay. Because we had never done this before it was a bit confusing and worrying. But probably this is a normal procedure for private companies. Anyway at the end we didn't have any problems with this lovely apartments and got our deposit back safely soon after we left apartment. So we definitely plan to book with Host and Stay again!

"Needs some TLC"

6.0

As I walked into the house, I noticed how nicely decorated the place was and someone had gone to the effort to put up Christmas decorations, which added a nice festive feel to the place. The Coach House Retreat has pretty much everything you could need for a holiday, this place is probably best for couples, The dishwasher was a nice touch as it meant that I didn't have to do any washing up on my holiday. The bed is comfortable and the shower is nicely high pressured. Which is rare I've found in holiday places, most places go for cheap, low pressure showers. The Coach House Retreat is withing walking distance of Whitby town center and serves as a good launching point for places like Scarborough and York.

Ok, I don't have enough room to detail my complaints thoroughly, so I will keep this short and sweet. I didn't hate this property, in fact I quite liked it. But there were things that annoyed me. I will never book a Host and Stay property again. I got spammed by automated emails wanting me to pay a damage fee before my holiday. Then I got spammed by reminders about checking out, one in the afternoon after I'd left. Extortionate fees, none of which are worth it. I think it was £40+ for cleaning, the place wasn't filthy but there were cobwebs around the kitchen, one really obvious dirty bit that I ended up dealing with because it annoyed me. Also, a Playstation game disk under the downstairs TV table. If I can see these things, surely the cleaners can. Also, the skirting boards by the door were dirty. You have to pay £25 for damage insurance or a £250 deposit, which they take £10 of when they return it. I went to put my clothes in the chest of draws and the sliding door of the wardrobe fell off the runners. I didn't cause this to happen, this had been done by a previous guest and not reported. And judging by the amount of dirt in the wardrobe, the cleaners don't go in there. In fairness to Host and Stay, they did come and fix it while I was out after I reported it. The radiators are rusted. There are still bits of a previous set of blinds around the kitchen window. No recycling option, I took it all home. The front door lock is a bit dodgy, it took me a 5 minutes in the pouring rain to get in. Like I said, I didn't hate this place. Surely making the place unavailable for a week or so to fix all the little flaws and more care from the cleaning crew isn't too much to ask. Sadly I won't be going back, so I'll never know, but if they sort out these issues, The Coach House Retreat could easily be a 8 or a 9.

"A gem of a place"

10.0

Lovely little apartment very well maintained really comfortable. Parking out side the front door in a small court yard . Out of town centre but not to far away in a very quiet area. Second time we have stopped there, won't be the last.

Nothing not to like, pub and shops could be closer in a perfect world
