Host & Stay - Mallard Cottage

It was clean and bright with modern furnishings. In a lovely spot, just where we like to be.

Not enough seating for everyone to sit in a more relaxed manner. Maybe a different configuration. Lots of kitchen area, not much living space. But everything was comfy and clean.

Wasn’t a dislike as such but could really do with one more of the yellow chairs no one more dining chair …there isn’t quite room for 4 adults on the sofa so one of us ended up on the floor and all 5 of us couldn’t eat at the table The heating is super efficient so we ended up with the window open….. you could save some pennies by turning it down a fraction

Mallard cottage is beautiful, well kept and very modern. Great to have a dishwasher. The bed was extremely comfortable, with crisp white linen. There was plenty of hanging space and drawers in the bedrooms. Hairdryers are supplied so no need to take your own. There is also complimentary shampoo, body wash and soap.

There was very little to no space in the kitchen to put food as all the cupboards were taken up with crockery, glasses etc. There was a blanket in the living room that appeared to have very short dog hairs on it, this may have been an oversight though as the rest of the property was spotless. We have stayed in other apartments in the past where a welcome pack is available on check in, usually a pack of biscuits, big pack of crisps and other bits and pieces, Mallard cottage didn't offer this at all, and although its not essential, its a welcome touch when arriving after a long journey. Be aware there are lots of steps up to the property, we knew about them beforehand, however nothing can prepare you for dragging suitcases and other luggage up and back down them.

Very clean, modern and nicely decorated. Lovely that a few basics were provided like coffee, tea and dish cloths etc. Owner replied quickly to messages. Excellent location being with 5 mins walk of the centre.

There are quite a few steps to get to the property, this was fine for us but my parents would have struggled. We would definitely visit again though. The positives by far outweighed the steps!

Steps up to the property, upside down house- Bedrooms on ground floor and first floor, lounge/kitchen on second floor.

Box wouldn't open in torrential rain. Holiday maker nearby let us shelter with our luggage in his hallway whilst he made a phone call to emergency number who eventually reprogrammed the number and we got in, soaked to the skin having hauled all our luggage and bags up 39 large steps in torrential rain. Two of our party need walking sticks which. enabled them to get up the steps. As the key didn't work first time this made our experience longer in the rain , all in all this made things very traumatic for us all, as we are all pensioners, one of our party is 90 years old and has cancer. so as you may imagine it was not a good start.

Check in and check out times were disappointing. Couldn’t get in the property until 4pm at the earliest and had to be out by 10am.
