Kona Village A Rosewood Resort

One of the best resorts I’ve stayed at. The beach was amazing. We stayed in the Beach Front King Hale, Hale 113, and it was phenomenal! It felt like we had a private beach. It was also nice being close to the adult pool and Shipwreck Bar. The drinks were great. Beach service was very good. In fact, service throughout the resort was amazing. That was the one thing I was worried about after reading past reviews, but it seems like they’ve totally trained up. Housekeeping, the service at the restaurants and bars, valet, all great. We ate at Moana for dinner one night and it was very good. It was convenient being right next door to Four Seasons, a five minute walk on the beach, and ate dinner there and preferred Moana. Breakfast was expensive and not great, but they have a cute coffee shop that was perfect. Parking was included and they had bikes to get you around, which we only used to get to the parking. Asaya spa was also perfect with a col plunge and hot tub. The treatment was great too. Back to the hale. It was amazing, outdoor shower and amazing tub. The deck was so comfortable. The only issue we had with the whole place were the pillows. They were down, but so flat. We ended up using couch pillows. But still 10/10!

We are big fans of Rosewood and were excited to stay at this new property. The rooms are stunning- we stayed at an ocean front Halle and loved the lanai and lounging sofa. The outdoor shower was also a hit. The food is really good across the board at all the restaurants. The staff is very friendly and the spa is world class. I had a terrific massage and pedicure. The gym is excellent. The big issue is the disconnect between guest services and everyone else. If you call them, it’s 50/50 whether anything happens. Your room may or may not be cleaned if you ask. Your car may or may not be brought up. Your bags may or may not get picked up. I also sense that that bell staff is short handed because cars and bags seemed to be a particular pain point. We were there when a large convention type group was there and the experience was much improved when they left. I cannot stress enough that if they want to impress travelers as they work through opening/growing pains, they should not have these groups around OR they need to really staff up. They were definitely not staffed to handle that volume of people coming and going at one time.

Absolute perfection from the stunning accommodations to the gorgeous scenery and landscaping to the superlative service offered everywhere on the property. This resort is a dream location for a honeymoon or a romantic escape. It’s spread out and not overcrowded. We especially loved our outdoor shower in our beautifully decorated room with our enchanting view of nature facing the lagoon. Service by the friendly staff was top notch at both restaurants as well as housekeeping. They always checked daily as to what time we wanted the room cleaned. The Kona Village surpasses all the other Big Island resorts by leaps and bounds. My only constructive comment would be to offer a larger variety of bed pillows than just super soft or super hard. We loved every minute of our stay!

I love the Big Island, and I wanted my husband to enjoy a really special stay during his first visit to Hawaii. I managed to get a great deal at Kona Village, and overall it was really, really nice. The individual hales (huts??) are all new and really lovely, and the outdoor shower was incredible. Our hale had a view across a pond to the mountains, and it was so pleasant to sit on the porch and look up at the hills. My husband was duly impressed with the beautifully appointed, luxurious room. The grounds are very pretty, but the plantings are still immature. I'll look forward to seeing it when things are more established. The food? eh, not so much. But that's not unique to this property. I've had lots of disappointing meals at various Big Island hotels. We wound up having our meals off-property for the most part. (We really liked the Temple Bar in Kona -- great cocktails.) So -- lovely room, nice setting, pleasant staff, better food elsewhere. And if you can find a good deal (we made our reservations during a Black Friday sale), it's excellent value for a deluxe resort on the Kona side.

I totally disagree with the last review. Two former visitors for many years returned and were blown away. By the thought/care at the fabulous rebuild and the modern but in the spirit of the original hales. By the restoration of the shipwreck bar and the sushi and level or service there and all over the resort. From offering help at any time/ any place in the restaurant/ at the pools/ for transportation/ the concierge. Everyone was more than helpful and lovely. Yes there are bikes but the people there are young now with msn children and it was a joy to see a new generation loving this place. The landscaping and all Infastructure is also perfect with chairs and lounges at every turn. I/we expected to pay more but found our rhythm after a day or so and felt while the food was e pensive, it is just part of the deal. I would go back in a heartbeat and tell anyone who loved and loves the real/ true Hawaii that KVR-2 is it!!!

Despite me pre-paying for my room, they had no record of my reservation. I made the reservation through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts. Instead of helping me figure out what happened and believing me when I showed them screen shots of my reservation and payment receipt, they did not believe me and instead charged me an additional $4500. I’m trying to get the charge reversed but they wont help and are making me jump through numerous hoops. Not five star service - not even close. Thankfully Amex is on it and actually provided five star service.

Beautiful quiet area. Lots to do. Nice quiet rooms. Great views.
