Hidden Jewel Boutique Hotel

Staff was very friendly! Hotel was beautiful and clean. The food was very good and the restaurant had a nice view on the ocean.

The absolute best part of the resort is its solitude and amazing service at the adjoining restaurant. All the guys at Tropical Escape are friendly and attentive and serve up awesome drinks! The restaurant had the best food on the island. Thank you, Chef! The room itself is super cute and functional. I loved the decor and water cooler. The kitchen is also nicely stocked. Great bathroom, too. The gardeners work all day in the heat making the grounds and beach look just lovely. What a beautiful oasis around the pool. We really loved hanging out in the pool. We cleaned the bugs out ourselves one day and requested chemicals when it appeared cloudy, but otherwise it was fine. Snorkeled out front and saw a shark! The sargassum is no joke. The smell wafts through the hotel area and permeates the room sometimes. It’s a shame. The hotel workers do what they can to mitigate it, but chances are, you will smell rotten eggs/sewage. The whole island is affected. Aside from the odor, the one major disappointment was the unexpected “resort fee.” Nowhere in Expedia did I see this fee mentioned. It definitely was not explained to us at check in. So while we enjoyed ourselves, that was an unexpected charge at the end of our stay. Take bug spray and use it. My daughter was eaten alive. My husband and I faired better than she did. It’s a healthy drive to the resort. Be sure to get a new golf cart with shocks! Lastly, the locals love the place and pop in to eat all the time.

As soon as we got to san pedro, the smell everywhere was horrible.. it smelled of rotton sewer & add heat to it makes it worse.. the whole 15 min golf cart ride to hidden jewel hotel was horrible.. the filth layung everywhere and the awful smell.. after a 40 yr dream of going to belize, i was so disappointed, i had never seen that kind of living.. I just did not look or smell anything like i had expected.. Then we get to hidden jewel resort, check in, staff was wonderful and nice. We get to our room and it is warm so i immediately look for the air conditioning.. i look up to see that there is a current up to date ac unit, the staff informed me that they had just turned it on and that the room would cool down. I also noticed 2 big ceiling fans as well that were both on.. The room was visually beautiful just like the pictures on their website. So we started settling in & unpacking. My husband went to take a shower to wash the day off & relax, turned the water on in shower & it smelled worse than what we were smelling outside. He decided he would smell worse by taking the shower so chose not to.. Long story shorter, the room never cooled off and the water in our room from all faucets smelled like sewer. We checked out the next morning and went to another hotel..
