Kirkgate Cottage Countryside Living

We loved the advertising of this property and loved how it sounded private, spacious, with a completely private, dog friendly garden to ourselves. We loved the sound of escaping completely from people for 3 nights.

We didn't like that the garden was shared with the entire 3 generation family from the farmhouse and that they would be walking within a couple of feet past our livingroom, playing in the shared garden and making us feel very much watched. We didn't like the mattresses and sofas for comfort at all. Although a dog friendly cottage we feel it could still have clean and fresh smelling soft furnishings. Far from expecting perfection, we holiday with our dogs, in cottages, at least twice yearly and have to say regrettably have never ever felt the need to complain about any but this one we felt it was 1 fault/complaint after another.......Toilet flush broken then temporarily fixed...No iplayer, netflix access on tv and they had a dvd player but not actually connected to TV. Torches without batteries, lamps not working, not secure garden and no direct access to dog walks from the cottage (had to drive to get to dog walking areas off the road)....broken tin opener....All in all, really mostly little annoyances we would never have even thought about but due to the description of the cottage being so far off the mark (oh and bathroom downstairs and bedrooms upstairs) and our sense of privacy and peace being destroyed, we felt we needed to warn others who may feel they too are looking to escape from people completely........We also came away a day early.

Lovely cottage in a quiet peaceful location with a wonderful view of the hills to the rear.

Great location

The property was unfortunately very unclean, we actually didn't stay the nights we had booked because of this.

Lovely little cottage in the woods, in the grounds of a bigger house. Very quiet. Well equipped. Cosy sitting room with fire. Beautiful views and a private garden.

A sign on the road would have made finding the cottage easier. The entrance is on a bend so it's easy to miss. We couldn't locate the info file.

We paid a £48 cleaning fee and the surfaces are dirty and old left macdonald salts in the kitchen cupboards doesn't give us the feel we were expecting for a special few days away for our anniversary. Now with the fuse box sparking several times I was worried to go to sleep in case of fire risk. We had to drive 20 minutes to purchase candles. So all in all it hasn't been quite what we hoped for or what was advertised. We really are never ones to complain and feel that these matters may be a case of bad timings and not a result of poor owners. With the fire risk being a constant worry, we contacted the owners and they did say we can have 2 nights free of charge. Which was excellent, they said they will send us a confirmation email, so we can stay whenever suits us. However, this email has never been received and we sent a message to remind them and nobody has contacted us since this phone call. The place could be so lovely, but we were very disappointed overall.
