CYWhen we entered the apartment we found other people inside who claimed that also booked that apartment. The place was very dirty as the other “guests” ate and slept there for hours. We had to clean and tidy and buy new clean towels and bedsheets as the other “guests” used them before we go there… We paid €350 to book the apartment and the owner accepted to give us a refund of €60, something that for us is unfair and unacceptable after what we went through. Additionally, the sofa bed was terrible. It was impossible to sleep on it and the double bed very very uncomfortable.

The situation goes far beyond inconvenience or subjective dissatisfaction. The property presents serious hygiene failures and clear non-compliance with minimum accommodation standards, which raise concerns regarding guest safety, public health, and legal obligations of the host. The presence of: - dirty bed linen with visible hair, - strong and persistent smells of urine and sewage, - greasy and filthy seating surfaces, - sticky floors, - uncleaned windows, - unusable sanitary facilities, indicates a systemic lack of cleaning and sanitation, not an isolated oversight. Such conditions may constitute a health hazard and are incompatible with the standards reasonably expected from a property listed on Booking.com. Furthermore: - Essential services (heating, internet, usable sanitation) were not provided. - The host failed to ensure basic habitability of the property. - Communication was deliberately avoided, then restricted to email only, which may indicate an attempt to evade responsibility. - The host minimized these issues as requiring only a “touch-up,” which is factually incorrect and misleading. From a legal perspective, the accommodation fails to meet basic habitability and consumer protection requirements, including: - the obligation to provide a clean, safe, and hygienic environment, - the obligation to provide functional utilities as advertised, - the obligation to respond promptly and effectively to serious complaints. Given the severity of the hygiene issues and the host’s conduct, I consider that: - the accommodation was not fit for human occupancy, - the listing may is misleading, and the situation warrants immediate intervention from Booking.com.
