Manor House

We only stayed in Thurso one evening, as we were taking the ferry from Scrabster the next day. The Manor House was a good place to spend the night. It was close to Prince George's Street bus stop and the train station (easy walk to both), and is close to the town centre. We had a room for three people, and it was very spacious. The bathroom was cramped but this is an historic building and like many such hotels the ensuite bathroom was retrofitted into the room. The staff was kind enough to allow us to keep our luggage in their main hall for the day so that we could explore the town more conveniently.

We paid for the best ensuite room available and we're shown to a substandard room with damp mould on the walls and bathroom in a vestibule. When mentioned to the owners they were unable to offer us the room we had booked but gave us a small twin also with damp mould stains around the windows. It was however a clean room so we accepted it.

Lovely, friendly proprietor, huge immaculate room, well situated… this was a gem! One note: there is scaffolding outside as there is construction, but we didn’t hear anything at all.

The family that runs this hotel are wonderful!!!! Lots of fun, very friendly and very helpful, offering dinning recommendations and help booking them. The rooms were lovely and warm which was much appreciated as it was 4° outside. It was very quiet and we had private motorbike parking at the back of the hotel. The roof was being repaired while we were there so there was scaffolding outside but even with this I still rate it 4 as the family made our stay a great experience. I would say the beds were a bit lumpy but I still managed to get a good night's sleep.

Great food and breakfast. Room was small and clean.

Check in was an interesting process and staff were not exactly nice about it (they were not prepared for a same day booking). I felt like an inconvenience. The property is nicely located!
