laïla, Seychelles, a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Resort

We stayed for four nights at Laila Resort at the end of March, choosing the property because it is associated with Marriott International. Unfortunately, our experience with housekeeping cleanliness was very disappointing. During our stay, we noticed a significant amount of sand in the carpet and throughout the room. The overall cleanliness did not meet expected standards, which caused frustration during our visit. My wife spoke with a housekeeping staff member outside our room and requested to meet the Housekeeping Manager. A lady who introduced herself as the Housekeeping Manager (a short lady, though I do not recall her name) came to speak with us. My wife explained the cleanliness concerns, and the manager apologized and assured us that the issue would be taken care of. However, despite this assurance, no noticeable improvement was made. This experience did not reflect the standards we expect from a Marriott-affiliated property. On a positive note, we truly enjoyed our dinners at Kafe Kerole, where both the food and service were excellent.

Wonderful experience with the staff from reception (Yanik etc), restaurant (Nimal, Mercia, Yanik, Tina, Ashia). Great people. The ambiance is nature, the hotel is exceptionally clean. It's quiet expensive but there is great value for money here.

We were came for honeymoon purpose but we had terrible experience the room cleaners is so bad restaurant food is so bad

rooms were spacious and clean and bathrooms were quite good. the balcony was well proportioned and a nice area to hang out. staff were very friendly

breakfast wasn't great at all - lack of choice and very few healthy options. staff were lovely but confused and the systems seemed a bit inflexible. beach is over the road so it feels a bit disjointed and the pool area isn't much fun

We had a nice Stay, but would recommend only few days here. The location is not especially good, directly in front of the main very busy coastal road and you have to cross this road to reach the nearby beaches! Staff is mainly friendly and helpful especially the Breakfast and reception Teams, less the Pool and bar keeper where you have to ask many times to get fresh towels if there are any!! By arriving the room smells musty and also during our stay. Breakfast and teatime are appreciated and tasty. The Pool is huge and nice but surrounded with rooms, restaurants and bars, so always people around.

By far not our best Stay in Seychelles or even Mahe. The location is directly in front of the main coastal road and you have to cross this very busy road to reach beaches. The Bar and Pool Keeper was less service oriented, you have to ask many times to get fresh towels and most of the time no towels available, poor service. In the room it smells musty by arriving always. All ok but not sure we will come again!

We returned to Hotel Laila for the second consecutive year, during the same period. Our first stay was excellent, which made us choose the same hotel again—even though Seychelles offers so many amazing alternatives. This time, I made sure not to miss writing a review, especially since I can now speak about the hotel’s evolution—and what an evolution it has been! The food has gone from good and varied to truly outstanding. There are many excellent dishes, and the breakfast experience is now even more flexible. For example, we asked for avocado one morning, and although it wasn’t part of the buffet, the staff made a special effort to provide it—which we really appreciated. One of the biggest highlights remains the staff. We were pleasantly surprised to see many familiar faces, and even more so that they recognized us from last year. Their kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail made a huge difference to our stay. Special thanks to Nimal and Bacari, but truly, the entire team was exceptional. The hotel also has a small but very well-maintained and stylish gym, with everything you might need—cold water, fresh fruit, and clean towels. Cafe Kreol, the beachfront restaurant, has improved significantly since last year. With its great location and delicious food, it’s definitely worth visiting whether you’re staying at the hotel or not. Anse Royal beach is one of the most beautiful and family-friendly beaches in Seychelles. Thanks to the coral reef offshore, the water is calm, shallow, and crystal clear—perfect for children and very relaxing for parents. On our last evening, we were treated to a private dinner on one of the hotel’s terraces, organized by the manager (whom we thank again for everything). With a dedicated chef and waiter, excellent food, and perfectly chosen wine, it was a truly special experience. This time, we focused more on relaxing and only took a one-day trip to La Digue, which I will review separately. Overall, our experience at Hotel Laila remains one of the most enjoyable of all our travels. We highly recommend it and will definitely return on our next trip to Seychelles.
