Oshi Ryokan

The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. The room was thoughtfully prepared for us in advance of arrival with tea and the heating turned on. The hosts lent us a bear bell for our hike and drove us to our bus stop after our stay which we were greatly appreciative of. Staying here and meeting the owners was a highlight of our trip.

The ryokan is over 200 years old, charming, and cozy. The dinner and breakfast were the best food I had in Japan. The host and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. I wish I could have stayed longer than just one night. I will definitely stay again in the future

The hosts provided excellent service and were very friendly, hospitable and helpful. Their service was amazing, the food was delicious and accommodation was very comfortable. The onsen was much appreciated after full days of adventuring. The views from the room was exceptional. Would definitely come back and stay there again.

We had an amazing time at Oshi ryokan. It was truly a highlight in our 2 week trip to Japan. After having a very busy few weeks walking and travelling around from city to city, this was the perfect place to spend our last few days. The food was excellent and easily the best food we ate while in Japan. Oshi and his family are so hospitable, friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. It was a peaceful, romantic and restorative getaway. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back

Nothing we didn’t like!

The Ryokan is old and beautiful. Access from the bus stop is very close. The local shrine and the Togakushi walk are very beautiful in the snow. The meals at the Ryokan are plentiful, beautifully presented and delicious. Oshi is a friendly and generous host.

The property was a fantastically traditional building which blew us away with how authentic it was. Despite this, it was still warm and cozy even in the snowy January weather. The traditional breakfast was delicious too! The staff were very friendly and spoke more than enough English to solve any problems we had.

The property may be a little difficult to get to if you have some sort of mobility issue, but this remoteness is what attracted us to the Ryokan in the first place. It was fun getting there and the views from around the property were well worth dealing with some snow drifts.

The host was very friendly and accomodating, i booked the room without food, but that was a mistake as the surrounding restaurants close very early, so they prepared me dinner at short notice at my request. The dinner was exceptionally good alongside with the beautiful scenery and tranquility of the lodging made it one of the highlights of my trip in japan

As there was very heavy snowfall at january, it is very difficult to go outside and explore

Mr. Oshi's ryokan is very conveniently located across the street to the first of the 3 shrine visits and right around the corner from the bus stop. There's also a great little coffee shop directly across the street called Kira Coffee, recommended! Every time we stay at Oshi ryokan, the service is exactly as pleasant as we remember. Delicious breakfast/dinner, very friendly staff, clean rooms, cozy bedding, this place is great. Mr. Oshi is also very knowledgeable about all things to do with the shrines, being a minister himself. I hope to continue visiting Oshi ryokan in the coming months and years. Thank you!
