Tirtagangga Water Palace Villas

This is my favourite place in Bali. I come here to retreat from the world, swim in the sacred pools and rest. It is amusing watching pretty women in floaty frocks pose for photos during the day but once tourists leave it is astoundingly special. I am grateful for this place.

The villa needs a little maintenance- the hose on downstairs toilet broke and some lights weren’t working. But on the whole this is perfect for me and my husband.

Originality

House infested my mosquitoes but not only.. frog in the bath and other armless animals were fun for the kids, but 2 Asian hornets nest in the bedroom and bathroom were not fun at all. It first looks very old school and original but the furniture are in fact old and dirty. Even though it is not written anywhere, the check-in is only until 5pm! (After that time you have to find you own way to the villa which is really not easy). The host's English is very approximate and he gives wrong information (be careful, no restaurant around the hotel open after 8pm). The "access to the temple outside tourist hours" is completely useless as the temple is officially open from 6ap to 7pm (even though the receptionist will tell you 5pm..) and outside these time it is dark anyway.. The breakfast is served at the villa by the close by restaurant and is very poor (you can pick only one thing, like hot beverage or juice but not both..pancake or fruit, not both..). You have to sleep with the noise of the hundreds waterfalls around (and animals), and no air-conditioning. We requested a baby bed that we never got. Don't look under the bed, there are spiders and dust.

Love this place more every time, and have visited many times. The location is perfect: who would not love to have a water garden for a front lawn? And the cottages are uniquely charming. The decor is so not hotel! They are delightfully idiosyncratic, and always make me wish I knew the owner. Windra, our host, is always delightful and goes out of his way to make our stay perfect. It is convenient having a reasonably good restaurant with a great view right next door. we cannot wait to go back again!

It was fantastic. We could have stayed longer. Once everyone goes home you have the whole garden to yourself. Our two storey villa was superb.

the location is fabulous. being in the water palace after tourists have gone is magical!

the lack of hot water was surprising and some of the plumbing didn’t work properly.

absolutely beautiful location being right within the walls of the Royal Water Palace, gardens are just magnificent and the villa was comfortable

unfortunately having to climb a circular wooden staircase to get to our bed (though comfortable), was awkward for us both (we are in our late 60’s), particularly if we needed the bathroom in the night!!!

The atmosphere. It was so peaceful, like stepping back in time. I loved swimming in the Holy pool when everyone had left and in the morning. Looking out on the garden was so relaxing. One in a lifetime experience. The bungalow was unique. Good idea with the coffee table book. Beautiful. The breakfast was simple but ok.

Very few places to eat after the palace closes. But the little old lady across the street was very accomodating. The traffic on the street was dangerous.

Location & views were excellent……incredible ! If you don’t mind a 3 star quality in a stunning location it’s ok for one or two nights The location is exceptional…very beautiful…swimming in the pools etc Breakfast was good Lovelly butterflies around Plunge pool great for cooling off Stunning gardens

Could benefit from an upgrade & new fridge The staff were very friendly & helpful Close to resturaunt therefore could be noisy in the daytime in high season Overall we enjoyed it for 2 nights
