Mountain Eco Shelter 3

The cabins hidden away in a beautiful little valley are so peaceful and the perfect way to escape the chaos of modern life. They provide everything you need, and anything you're missing can be found in the little honesty shop in reception to save you a trip to the supermarket. Just make sure to restock it before you leave! The shelters are located only a 15 minute drive from the start of the PR1 hike, (or you can hike up to the start directly from your front door if you fancy an extra 3hr hike and 600m elevation!). Should you fancy a coffee or a drink or a meal, there is a great little café 5min walk away, with a small but excellent menu of various dishes and craft beer. Highly recommended! Also make sure you visit the donkeys on your way! The owner Dioclécio is super friendly and helpful, and is always available on WhatsApp, should you need anything. If you are looking for a tranquil haven in the Madeira mountains, look no further!

Kitchen was missing a few things, but it has the basics you need to cook a meal!

Location, scenery, cabin feel were all outstanding. I would gladly come here again. Mattress was comfortable. Bathroom clean and functional. The host met us at the gate and was very helpful!

The pots and pans, and general kitchen equipment were not great. Even equipment for cleaning up was lacking. It was a shame because we cooked every meal, so used the kitchen a lot, and otherwise the cabin was perfect. WiFi connection was sometimes difficult though we did manage. That was not really a problem, but FYI if you need internet for checking in for a flight!

Fantastic retreat in the mountains. Felt completely removed from busy life, which was the intention! Comfortable, clean, and cosy. The host was super friendly. The food at the local cafe was great. The donkeys were cute.

Mooie rustige locatie en accommodatie (en inrichting) van goede kwaliteit. Vanuit de locatie kan je een wandelroute naar de Pico Areeiro nemen. Erg mooie en leuke route, maar wel uitdagend. Goede uitvalbasis voor veel (actieve) activiteiten als je een auto hebt. Op loopafstand zit een leuk tentje waar je overdag wat kan eten/drinken en op 10 min rijden zit ook een andere plek waar je savond lekker kan eten. Wees je bewust dat je in de bergen zit: dit is heel mooi, maar het weer kan snel wisselen. Daarnaast daardoor ook beperkte internetverbinding en weinig waterdruk. Voor supermarkt moet je ook een stukje rijden.

Everything was absolutely perfect - ideal for a quiet escape, beautiful hiking trails all around, fresh mountain water, the shelters themselves are beautifully organized and well equipped, and the hosts have been superbly helpful throughout our stay. Plus, the donkeys on the premises were extremely sweet and friendly! Would highly recommend, and we're looking forward to going back!
