"Traditional, beautiful, clean, authentic!"

The Ryokan was absolute gorgeous, super clean, comfortable bedding and an authentic and traditional experience. Our host was lovely, friendly, helpful and accomodating. We loved our house and bathroom slippers and garden views. It was magical. I would definitely stay again.

"Beautiful spot. Best for solo travelers or quiet couples."

Beautiful spot right in the heart of the geisha district. Walking distance to all of the best spots of Gion as well as the shopping/tourist popular spots of Kyoto. We were able to takkyubin (luggage forwarding service) in and out with zero issues, even recieving updates as they arrived. Maps and magazines of the area showing local events happening nearby were provided with water, tea, and a welcoming smile. Being over 6ft tall, I felt a little more clumsy getting around the low crossbeams but besides that everything was very clean and well maintained. PLEASE NOTE: this is a family home with a ton of history. I recommend going alone, with a loved one, or with someone who appreciates the culture equally (don’t be loud or show up smelly like my friend I ended up bringing along). It is quite small with only a few rooms, so late nights are not recommended so you can be courteous to the other guests (especially if you have the upstairs quarters). I highly recommend to solo travelers or quiet couples for a TRULY traditional ryokan experience. I would love to stay here again.

Kyoto paradise! We had the most wonderful stay at Ryokan Uemura. Super peaceful atmosphere at the heart of Kyoto old town. Room very spacious, clean and with all the amenities we needed. Mr. Uemura spoke really good English and had a great map with good tips on what to do and where to eat. Without a doubt we will be returning!!!
