Ryokan Uemura

The owner was so lovely! He gave me a heat pack every time I went out in the evening and made sure I was well looked after! The location was beautiful and I really felt like I got to experience a traditional Japanese house!

As a solo woman traveling I didn’t love the fact that neither my bedroom nor the shower room had locks. There were little hooks to keep the door shut but someone could have easily opened them. I didn’t feel unsafe at all but just a little uneasy that I couldn’t properly lock those spaces.

The owner of the accommodation was very attentive and friendly and also sells delicious desserts. The location is excellent and the place is very beautiful and immersive.

There was no elevator and when carrying a lot of suitcases it was a bit of a problem but I think it was fine because it is a traditional house and by installing the elevator it would lose its essence and as it is now it is perfect, it is a very pretty house.

Perfect location and warm hospitality. The bedding is the most comfortable one we have had in Japan .

Hot water is not warm enough .

This Ryokan is located in a quiet area at the historical Gion district. The room is large with all amenities you need. It is kind of like staying at your grandparent's house... You can tell everything is old, but it is well looked after and cared for. The bathroom has everything you need : toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, a shaving kit, hairbrush,... You name it! Mr. Uemura is kind, helpful and friendly.
