The location of the ryokan is unbeatable, on the most picturesque lane in this part of Kyoto. You will enjoy your stay here if you aren't expecting anything fancy; the traditional facilities are simple and clean. The host is lovely and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable and despite being steps away from an area crowded with tourists, the lane is very quiet at night. It provided an excellent base from which to explore Higashiyama by foot.

We didn't experience any disappointment. We expected simple, clean accommodations and our expectations were met.

Best experience in Kyoto as a solo woman traveller, the host is kind and location is amazing. I took a morning walk in Gion and able to take nap in the afternoon to avoid crowds

What a lovely, homey ryokan! An elderly couple runs this place, but wr only interacted with the man. It felt like staying at your Japanese grandparents’ place. He was very sweet, served us tea and cakes upon arrival, and brought us a lovely soft light (on his own accord). It was lit and the softly lit room awaited us after a long day of touring around. There is a note about a 10 pm “curfew” in the hotel description, but that is just a poor translation. The couple go to bed and aren’t available after 10 pm. But the ryokan is open to come or go as you please!

The unique character of the home - very old but yet so beautiful Clean bedroom and shared bathroom (with hot water and provided shampoo/body wash) The location (walkable distance to Gion, Kiyomizu-dera, bus stops along Higashi-dori to/from Kyoto JR station) Quiet and peaceful surroundings, very traditional area as if you’re back in the old world The super friendly owners who’s willing to give their way to help you and give you additional advice whenever you need it

Internet connection could be a bit better It can be a bit cold (but the futon blankets are very thick and will help you through the night!) Would have been nice to have the breakfast like before, but the owners have explained why the reason and may hopefully return in the future Some may find the 10pm curfew inconvenient, but I believe most ryokans apply this rule and the place will be dead quiet by around this time

Loved the location, warmth of the host, Japanese style rooms, cleanliness and comfortable beds on the floor with cosy bedding.

The sweetest sir welcomed us, he was so kind and gave us advice, beautiful rooms, and even prepared a hot bath for my mother the night before we left because the temperature was cold outside . The Ryokan is probably remained probably the same for years, It’s authentic, comfy, calm, very reasonable prices.
