Absolutely amazing. All reviews I've seen that say otherwise are people that have a romanticised idea about "traditional" Japanese accommodation, which I feel that this location gives a far more authentic experience. Location is insanely beautiful, with a cheap fare for the bus down to alternative food places if you aren't keen on the dinner services provided. We personally found the Hida Beef dinner 100% worth it for the additional cost, and breakfast was delightful. We honestly spent most of our stay in the private onsen, and the rest enjoying the incredible scenery. Staff were absolutely incredible, even going so far as to personally assist when we had left a bag on the bus, which was retrieved quickly! Definitely worth it, and we plan on going again.

There is, of course, unexpected surcharges for your stay (which is a trend across Japan, but understandable for tourists). Only a few hundred yen, but good to know before you book.

Is this Ryokan the best kept secret in Japan? A historical Ryokan dating back to the Edo period. Wonderful English speaking staff, incredible food, and gorgeous old building.

Les onsen publics et privatisables (gratuitement!) sont géniaux. Le dîner et le petit déjeuner sont traditionnels (ne vous attendez pas à des croissants!) et c'est une super expérience

La chambre mériterait une petite mise à neuf (un petit coup de peinture, yukatas un peu élimés...) mais c'est largement compensé par les onsens. Le lieu est accessible en bus.

温泉は良かったです。

作務衣が穴が空いているものが置いてあったり、従業員の方の服装が統一されておらず全員私服なため、どなたに声をかければいいのかわからず大変困りました。ジャージやパジャマのような服装で働かれている方もいて驚きました。食事内容も写真では飛騨牛ですが、実際は飛騨牛を選択すると追加料金が発生します。海外の観光客がほとんどのようで、私の常識とはかなり異なる旅館でした。日本にこんな旅館存在するんですね…海外向けの偽旅館って感じでした。すごく楽しみにしていたのでとても残念です。

Room size, Onsen, location excellent!

Multiple levels bin the room so one needs to be careful! Would have loved to have a vegan meal but there was no option as already informed to us by the hotel qell in advance. In fact they reduced the price for having no food option for us.
