Great location, very clean, and good value.

The host seemed annoyed most of the time.

Lot of good advice and suggestions from the staff both regarding hiking as well as local food establishments. Nice people!

This place wasn't too expensive, but the room was still comfortable but very simple and plain. The owner only speaks Japanese, but he uses google translate on his phone to communicate concerns and requests. He was very helpful and will try and may sure you are coming back to a hot bath after a day of hiking and wilderness activities. I stayed here 3 nights and it was a pleasant stay. It is not related to the lodging but I would highly recommend Go Yakushima Tours. Although sometimes it was hard to contact them and work things out. My guides Steve and Hiroko did a very good job and I learned a lot about Yakushima. Hiroko was able to arrange for us to visit one of the top woodcraftsmen on the Island. I enjoyed the tours.

It is a little older building. The rooms are very plain: tatami mats, futon, small folding table, and a tv. There is a fridge in the hall for storing food but there are NO cooking facilities for guests. You will have to eat out, but the owner can make some good recommendations for restaurants nearby. The supermarkets at Miyanoura were small, expensive and sometimes not well stocked. There appeared to be bigger supermarkets near Anbo but without your own transportation it is too difficult to get to.

the location was very good; close to many amenities: restaurants, a bus stop and supermarket. The laundry facilities, which were very useful since I was drenched after having caught heavy rain, so I had a lot of washing to do.

Toilet. it was mixed gender one and its design made me feel slightly hesitant to use; urinals are at the front and toilet cubicles are at the back. The toilet was very clean though.

Great support by the host in planning our stay. Nice bath to relax after a day spent outdoor. Relaxing surrounding area. Just loved it

A bit more flexibility while arriving 8n term of check in time.

Japanese-style room (ryokan), rather rough conditions. Good location, not too far from the ferry terminal. There is an onsen available, where you can relax. I definitely appreciate the host's advice on organizing a trip to the cedar forest with a one-day stay with an overnight stay. Very good recommendation from the host for a place to eat dinner. The host recommended Izakaya Ehimo えひも, 8 minutes walk, where we ate especially tasty yakitori, the service was exceptional. Conditions correspond to the price for the room.

- Thin futon mattresses. - Difficult communication with the host (the gentleman on the right in the photo served us), probably of cultural rather than linguistic background, communication mainly through a translator.

We loved the traditional stay. If you’d like to experience the traditional feel of Japan, it cannot get better than this! We really loved the onsen in the bathroom too, the host would prepare it for us every time we would announce the intention to take a shower. Just a massive and lovely private onsen experience! Everything was well organised, even if to an extreme sometimes. The owner was super helpful, took the time to explain all the rules of the house, and provided very nice restaurant and supermarket recommendations. He even called to book one of the restaurants for us, which was very nice (best sushi we had in our lives btw, just by the end of the same street).

The tatami floor were lovely, but the mattresses to lay on were quite thin, too thin for our personal taste. We would also enjoy if there would be the possibility of warming up water for a tea or a microwave to warm up some take out food, but there wasn’t. Finally, we missed a washing/drying machine, especially because it rains A LOT in Yakushima and we got soaked wet to the house and had a hard time dealing with our wet clothes without damaging the tatami floors. Luckily there is a dryer just 5 min walking from there.

some long hair from previous guests in the room and the toilet. Also it would be better if there's a common area where guests can sit down, heat up and have meals and chat with each other.
