"Perfect stay at Yakushima :)"

Very nice ryokan and perfect location : near the ferry port, and at 5min of a bus stop to take you everywhere on the island. The host explained to me everything and helped me organise my stay in Yakushima. He was so nice ! (And the bath was perfect after a day hiking!)

"Bad"

The location is very convenient, right in the heart of Miyanoura. The room is comfortable and quiet.

Very bad experience with one of the personel: we couldn’t make it in time for the check-in (ferry schedule) and apologized several times for it. It’s our fault, okay. However, the person in charge was extremely aggressive, unrespectful, and conducted a police-like questioning to understand the reason of our delay in detail. After a never ending explanation, he finally accepted to let us stay for the night. He then explained to us he’s already refused 4 groups this year because they weren’t ablr to explain the reason of their delay for check-in (check-in ends at 17:00). The hotel itself was good (location, quiet), but for the same price in Miyanoura you can find other hotels where you will not have to go through such a bad experience.

"Nice stay, but staff was a bit too close."

Nice bath, nice room.

The host wanted to know a bit too explicitly what our plans are and told us very explicitly that we were underprepared / we had not planned our trip enough. There was a tiny bit of mold at the taps in the bathroom.

"Above and beyond to help!"

Our host was very thorough and dedicated and ensured we had all the right logistics pinned down for our hike, bringing us bus timetables and helping us plan based on what we want to see. When we both fell ill with some sort of nasty norovirus he let us extend our checkout time for a small fee, despite the likely inconvenience. We were extremely grateful as we were in no position to start travelling again. Thank you so much!

I'm a side sleeper so sometimes struggle with shikibuton but my partner loved it. I don't think this reflects poorly on the place, though! Struggling to come up with something we didn't like (besides the norovirus. Norovirus sucks ass and I rate norovirus 0/10)
