The property was beautiful and in a great location, right in Hakone Yumoto next to a flowing river.

Nothing to say except maybe the room rate is high and the exterior could use some new paint

The location is good in respect of transport. I have to say though that this part of Hakone wasn't exactly the most inspiring place to visit. It consists of a strip of shops and restaurants, the vast majority of which are shut by 6 so there is very little to do in the town. It is very much a base for visiting other locations rather than a destination in its own right. The hotel reception area is nice, there are some amusement facilities on site and the staff are generally very pleasant.

The whole experience is very regimented - dinner is a 5:30 or 6:30 slot with pressure applied to take the earlier slot to help the staff. The same with breakfast - 8 or 8:30. The room we had was large but needed a bit of love and care - it all seemed very old and unloved. The complementary jacket for one of the yakatas in the room was covered in fairly fresh soy sauce. When the ac was switched on it flooded the room with an aroma of decades old cigarette ashtrays. The photos of the onsen area are also a bit flattering. We found the outside part very pleasant but the interior is again a bit tired feeling and could use a refresh.
