We liked the quality of the onsen but the options offered was quite limited. We like the special touch to make us comfortable while checking to sit us down to describe the hotels facilities and services.

The rooms are a little dated with the pillows and the mattress feeling like they’ve been re-used for a while that there is next to zero support we ended up folding a towel for a little more support. Be sure to have cash as the hotel doesn’t accept Cards either.

The staff provided excellent service and there were few that spoke English that helped as my Japanese language skills are very limited. The room is very good and spacious for this town as Spax was a last minute booking as I extended my stay in Kusatsu. The staff provided shuttle service on demand which was really nice. The location is walking distance to the main attractions. I just didn't realize steep some of the hills are in the town.

Some of the aspects of the building are showing some of its age, nothing that bothered me, but some with higher expectations may take notice. Recently stayed at the Conrad in Tokyo, the expectations should be put in perspective as Kusatsu is a small town and this is an excellent hotel for Kusatsu.
