Furusato

Staff very nice and friendly.

The atmosphere

Not much info was given. I didn't know that it would take around an hour to go to Furusato. There was certainly language barrier and staff were totally clueless of where we can eat dinner and we went to the restaurants they told us to go and were closed. Wasted our trip. Staff mentioned said tat I need to give notice if we want to have dinner at our stay but I actually didn't know. Our room has bathroom but with cold water, even the sink water was freezing cold. This place is up in the mountain area so it was very cold.

The Ryokan was very nice, the staff was very helpful. I later realised that we have stayed in an upgraded room (we have booked the room with a shared bathroom but we had in the end our own bathroom) The room was very big and the futon beds were comfortable. The location was great to reach Kamikochi in just 15-20 minutes.

Unfortunately the ryokan was extremely cold (We were there in October) and our AC didnt work to make the room warmer. Also the facility itself was very cold. The food was okay, we were not very happy about the food, but it might just be our taste.

The hostess was amazingly friendly! The location was spectacular and the ryokan was incredibly charming.

What a gorgeous Ryokan; a bit off the beaten path in Okuhida but that's exactly what we were looking for! Gorgeous old building with a lovely lay out. Our room was massive with heaps of space to spread out during our stay. It seemed quiet but during dinner you would notice there were quite a few people staying! We had kaiseki for breakfast included for our room and both days it was delicious. The real highlight was the stunning onsen at the back of the building with an indoor and outdoor area, covered in natural rocks. It was gorgeous and very peaceful being able to enjoy the stars at night. I didn't find another onsen like this on our trip, it was really something special.
