Kosi Forest Lodge

Beautiful location and nice looking main area.

For the pppn rate, everything was lacking. The accommodation is TINY, and don’t look and feel like the pictures. Neglected and not clean. Toilet constantly smelled bad and made the room smell. Outdoor and indoor bathroom just feel dirty with mould. Rooms very hot, with just very loud fans, no AC. The camp itself is rustic, which is great, but the service is not intuitive. You have to look for someone to get a drink. There is no service at the pool area, so even getting a drink is a mission. Most things requested get forgotten, or just ignored eg I asked if there was someone we could pay to just wash the mud off the car, it was confirmed…I eventually just found a hosepipe and rinsed the car myself while the manager looked on. The extra paid for excursions were also understaffed, to the point where the guests had to carry the lodge supplies ourselves, just zero attention to detail or guest experience. We had pointed out all issues to the company that owns the lodge, they weren’t really surprised at the feedback, and promised feedback on our issues, it’s been 3 months, not even a whisper back. We have since heard that they are planning to close this lodge down, which would make total sense. I would suggest turning it into a backpackers lodge. It’s more suited than a high end getaway,

My stay at Kosi Forest Lodge was outstanding. The staff consistently went the extra mile to answer our questions and accommodate our requests. It’s a wonderfully practical base from which to experience the turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs, and I was deeply impressed by the exceptional work the volunteer rangers are doing on the beach to protect and conserve their population. The food was exceptional, and the entire experience allowed us to enjoy Africa in style. The privacy was great, yet you are not isolated. Giving peace of mind. The lodge must be experienced in the African setting. It is expected that you may make contact with a scorpion or reptile, but it is part of the adventure.

Excursions and tours around Kosi Bay Mouth could be better promoted and coordinated. Staff should experience some of the excursions themselves so they can provide more informed information to the guests. While the turtle tour was excellent, other Kosi Bay Mouth excursions were not as well supported and explained, which is surprising for a top-class lodge that attracts visitors seeking an authentic African experience.

Nice variety, very tasty meals and very friendly professional staff. Lovely atmosphere and exceptional location in middle the forest. Activities well organized and interesting with guides looking attentive after us.
