"Cozy and traditional ryokan"

I felt really welcomed by the warmth that Hasegawa-san and her family provided ☺️. The ryokan retains its traditional charm & is completely made of wood, which is different from the surrounding ryokans. As a solo traveller, I initially felt worried about transportation but Hasegawa-san even greeted me at the bus stop (otherwise I would have missed the stop). I enjoyed chatting with the family too! Overall my stay was a really comforting and lovely experience!

I think it might be good to offer a solo traveller price on Booking.com!

The location.

The photographs we had seen on Booking.com of the Izumi So were starkly different to the place we experienced and we wondered if the photo's were at least 10 years old. There was no hot water at all in our room, just cold from the tap, and no bath/shower and it was explained that we would have to share a bathroom with other guests why using the Onsen which surprised us for the price we were paying. All in all, we would rate this a tired 2 star hotel in desperate need of a refurb and one which we found to be unrecognisable to the pictures we saw on the website.

"Great experience in my first ryokan, albeit slightly expensive for what you get."

Hospitality of the staff, cozy room with a comfortable futon and tatami mats, family-owned atmosphere. The hot spring water in the onsen was fantastic, despite the bath being a bit small. Breakfast was fantastic!

Dinner preparation could be improved for the price paid - the grilled fish was a bit overcooked and dry, and the miso soup was too salty for my taste. Unfortunately there were other travelers who were quiite noisy and disruptive in the onsen.. I wish the rules were better enforced.

"Lovely Ryokan with lovely staff, would recommend for anyone coming to Japan!"

Izumi-so was my first Ryokan experience and couldn't recommend it more, the host was lovely, kind and accommodating. My room was very nice and the breakfast was delicious; the open air onsen was also lovely at night! Great location, about a 1-2 minute walk from the center of Gero. 10/10
