Wajimaya Ryokan

Es ist eine kleine Unterkunft nahe dem Bahnhof und dem Tempel. Alle Zimmer sind im japanischen Still und entsprechender Ausstattung. Es wird sehr viel Wert darauf gelegt die Ordnungsregeln zu beachten, wie z.B. wo welche Schuhe getragen werden dürfen etc. Das Zimmer war recht groß und hatte viele Unterbringungsmöglichkeiten. Das Bad und WC werden gemeinschaftlich genutzt. Da in unserem Bereich nur drei Doppelzimmer waren, war dies kein großes Problem.

Die Duschen sind klein und als Plastikkabine ausgeführt. Es gibt dort wenig Platz. Der Betreiber der Unterkunft achtet sehr darauf, dass die Regeln im Haus eingehalten werden. Das kann manchmal etwas störend wirken. Er ist aber sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich.

The authenticity, location and attentive staff

Příznivá lokalita blízko hlavního nádraží, relativně nedaleko centra a starého Kjóta. Úzkostlivě čisté prostory rjokanu, moderní hygienické vybavení. Pečlivý a snaživý majitel.

Horká a studená voda ve sprše se obtížně mísila, spíše nemísila. Tekla buď horká, nebo studená. Hodil by se písemný návod v angličtině.

the Location was very central and easy to locate. a beautiful authentic ryokan, with added modern touches in the rooms and bathrooms. hot water kettle, microwave, fridge facilities, water dispenser, very automated toilets, good shower rooms. lots of towels and robes provided for the stay.

the guy that checked us in seemed very annoyed that we were there. one of the reasons we chose this ryokan were the reviews that said the 'owner' was friendly and helpful. not sure if this was the same person, but he definitely gave off 'I dont like stupid foreigner vibes'. there were a lot of very specific rules about almost everything that were explained at check in, and he made us do them to show him we understood. ( fair enough as he doesn't want stupid foreigners ruining the hotel) we only stayed one night of our 5 night stay as it turned out the futon on the floor in group room didnt work well for a couple in our group (our mistake in choosing ryokan style) but the small little things like above mentioned staff, very narrow steep stairs, shared bathroom for 7 people, and the feeling like we were being watched and would get in trouble for being there, made us unwilling to give the ryokan exp a good go. we moved to a more comfortable and cheaper hotel up the road. unfortunately we didnt choose a refundable option with the booking and even so hose to lose the money paid rather than stay on.

Very nice location - walkable from Kyoto station. Nicely maintained.

Curfew time is 11 pm. Guests have to be back by then.
