Hidaji (Adult Only)

Our stay at this ryokan was magical and so memorable. Immediately upon entering the property, we were greeted so kindly by the staff and presented tea and a hot hand towel at check in. Most of the staff seemed to speak at least basic English and at least one staff member spoke conversational English. The lobby and ryokan itself was so impressive and unique. I loved the whole vibe of the ryokan and the cypress smell through the halls. We used our private onsen outside 5 or 6 times each in the one night we were there and it was very relaxing and serene. The water was HOT but felt so good after. I loved the shower too. We didn’t end up making it out to the private reserve only bath but it was always available when I checked. As two westerners in Japan for the first time, we were a little nervous about the food being a little experimental or unfamiliar to our tastes, but both dinner and breakfast were exceptional. It was easily the second best dinner experience of my life, second place only to my own wedding. It’s quite a lot of food but we managed to eat most of it! The staff was very attentive and explained everything to us throughout dinner to help make us feel more comfortable and understand what we were eating. We didn’t get a chance to turn in our tags to get a free milk after our bath but we did enjoy the free cup of sake for each of us. There were additional drinks for purchase during dinner too (we got whisky and a tasting tray of sake) which was all very reasonably priced. Would highly, highly recommend!

Nothing that bothered us too much. A couple bugs which was to be expected with the location. The location is a bit secluded and out of the way which is both a pro and a con. We traveled all the way from Ueno to Shinjuku to Matsumoto to Hirayu then finally to Fukuji onsen all in one morning. We arrived right on time for check in at 2pm. It was a difficult travel morning that required very careful preparation (do not attempt without prep) but it was possible! It was our first experience with buses and trains in Japan and everything worked out smoothly thankfully.

Amazing services, beautiful traditional ryokan really clean and charming. Private onsen and semi private onsen. Traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner with a never ending range of delights deeply rooted in tradition and good taste. Beautiful ceramics and impecable and dedicated service. Really delightful.

It is located in a tiny village 1 h by bus from Takayama. It is in a beautiful scenery, however, there’s not much to do in there except enjoying the hotel, its food and onsens

La junior suite ha un onsen privato all'aperto, che regala assoluta privacy nella pace della natura. Colazione e cena sono parte di un percorso gustativo nelle tradizioni del Giappone. L'ambiente è silenzioso, il personale discreto e non invadente, l'esperienza è autentica. Non avrei potuto chiedere di più.

This was an outstanding experience. Superb service and suit with private Onsen. Great food. Beautiful location. I can't express enough of the fabulous experience we had here. Would love to come back someday.
