Hlalanathi Drakensberg Resort

We liked the location! We were trying to be close to hiking.

We had a hard time finding our room, which wasn’t marked anywhere! We drove multiple laps around in circles and then found someone to ask for help. Had to use the bathroom, which had very strong odor, and immediately got locked in! After panicking and freaking out, I managed to climb through the small window. We had multiple staff attempt to fix the door before the issue was solved. Not a relaxing start to our vacation.

I left my charger when checking out and disappointed it wasn’t “found”. But either than that, what you saw is what you got.

Everything was magnificent

The only negative was that the signage from the main road wasn't clear enough ☹️

The location is tough to beat; overlooking the Tugela river with the Amphitheatre in the background, the view is incredible. The proximity to Royal Natal is a definite plus as it has a plethora of hikes; easy, challenging and in between. The staff were friendly and the grounds were immaculate.

The chalets were nicely located with great views and had just about everything you could need. One downside was, looking up into the ceiling, the beams are covered in dust and cobwebs. I understand that those areas aren't easy to clean but it seems as though they've been neglected for some time.

Breathtaking view of the amphitheatre. Ideal location

Facilities were dilapidated and not well maintained. The swimming pool was full of insects, and slides were not switched on. The tennis court surface was cracked, and racquets available for hire were in poor condition. We booked a 6 sleeper but were given a 4 sleeper instead. The room itself had very old windows and appliances, which made it difficult to use. No signal and the WiFi was weak and hardly ever worked. There were no signs to show how to access the hiking trails on the hills, etc. Overall, it was definitely not worth the amount we paid.
