Mountain View

Super view of fields and hills from the living and eating area in the caravan. However this caravan is sited right next to the road leading into the caravan site so expect noise from passing cars. You'll note that other reviews mention this. Great local walks, surrounded by local history and nature reserves. Ideal for walkers with/without dogs. Local waterski/tow park, overlooked by cafe and bar with outside and inside seating. Fully functional cooking area, good selection of crockery and cutlery, pans and cookware. Note : Suggest you arrive with your own food supplies. Local offerings are limited although supermarkets available in local towns, car journey required. Gas oven looked very new, microwave was in working order but had rust on the inside, under counter fridge, old but in working condition, with small ice box. Mattresses appeared to be very new and were comfortable. Suggest mattress protectors are used in future to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Caravan was cleaned to a reasonable standard.

Poor water pressure. At times no water neither hot or cold was available, bit of a nuisance if you are mid shower. I put this down to an overall site issue however have noted this is a regular complaint by other guests so it may be local to this caravan. No outdoor seating available. Suggest that this was destroyed after the previous guests arrived, note the 'Hitch' review dated 13 April. Except for tea towels and 1 hand towel in the bathroom no other towels provided. Advert states towels are provided. Owner advised of no shower towels but no response received to this query. Upgraded TV would be useful for guests who may be looking for a smart TV, although not sure if there is a WiFi offering by caravan owner. Disconnected fire alarm in the living area, old extension leads that may have been 'daisy chained' for the TV in the main bedroom. I couldn't locate a carbon monoxide alarm which should have been noticeable as there is a gas oven and gas boiler. Being advised on the morning of our journey to Mountain View that the accommodation had been double booked was disappointing. However with zero notice and at Easter every where was fully booked no other options were available, I just took the notice on the chin and travelled down the next day. Receiving 3 promises of repayment for the situation by the owner. Never fulfilled. The owner advised other people were responsible to resolve the refund. They did not take ownership of the situation. I had no option but to escalate to booking.com When Booking.com reviewed the complaint and sought to resolve this, it caused the owner to send a stream of angry and insulting messages. Suggest when you book you bear in mind it's a caravan of some age and you are renting from an owner who is paying site fees, commission and cleaning fees therefore is looking to recoup as much as possible for little output and effort. My regret? Not reading the reviews before I arrived.

the beds were comfortable and the kitchen and bathroom had recently been renovated

on arrival to the property we were a bit taken aback by the state of the outside area - old Christmas decorations scattered about in March , broken and rusty chairs lying around outside . the caravan was old but we didn’t expect it to be like that especially given we had a young child with us. on opening the door there was an overwhelming smell of cat urine as if someone had stayed with an unneutered male cat-it was awful and at this point we seriously considered closing the door and going home. inside there were random things lying around in the floor such as a black satin sleep mask. we decided to open all the windows and see if we could sort out the smell a bit as the bedrooms seemed clean although with well worn duvet covers and a paper thin duvet. we decided to stay for our little boy who was excited about staying in a caravan as we knew we would be out most of the time. we had no tv during our stay due to the satellite connection being constantly on and off and there were odd amounts of kitchen things like one glass . the van it’s self wasn’t clean ( see photos) from cobwebs hanging from the ceiling to filthy fans to dirty taps to rubbish lying around outside to tons of debris in the sofa. we made sure we were out and about although the caravan site itself is a work in progress ( excavators on site digging plots etc) and millom bay is not the sandy clean bay we were led to believe either. on the last night we had no heating or hot water. the next morning we called the owners who did at first seem helpful but we realised since were simply fobbing us off, blaming other people for issues and have continued to do so since.

The caravan was lovely and clean although there was a smell of old smoke in the bedroom, maybe from someone smoking outside with window open? The bed was very comfortable and there was just about everything that we needed in the well equipped kitchen. On the whole the location on the site was peaceful and just a few minutes walk to the ski bar and homemade ice cream shop. It took us half an hour to get into Coniston and 40minutes to Wastwater. Nice views of the mountains.

Unfortunately there was very low water pressure when we were there which made showering nearly impossible although this was caused by a water leak apparently so hopefully was just a glitch. The road into the site just before the entrance was full of horrendous potholes! Unfortunately our blind dog frightened by noise from occasional local boy racers in noisy cars zooming along the entrance road behind.

Location was great and lovely walking on doorstep

As we used the kitchen on a couple of occasions it would have been good to have a washing up sponge/scoured, also there was a bin provided but no bin liner. Little things but easy to provide?

The location, peace and quiet

It was difficult to find, poor signage. Could be cleaner. Shower drainage was very poor.

Beautiful location , lovely clean accommodation and had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in 10/10.

The oven had a weird smell
