Hostel Put Svile

Really nice hostel, amazing clean - cleanest place maybe in whole Serbia - with very hospitable and very friendly owner who speaks very good English, as well as Hungarian and Serbian. Amazing good located right next to the busstation, just 2 minutes walking. Next to exchange office. Railwaystation is about 1 kilometer walking. Center of town is also 1 kilometer walking. You have your own private room, shower and toilet are shared, but also very clean. If you are coming from the EU so roaming does not work at your phone, Serbia still has public phones. buy a MTS Inocall kartice for 500 Dinar at the postoffice. Most public phones are broken unfortunately. The phone box near the central postoffice was working. At the railwaystation you can also buy tickets all the way to Montenegro, even though, at this moment, no direct trains are running from Subotica to Podgorica/Bar.

Rooms are a bit small.

Everything except the bed bugs. The owner was super nice and the location was excellent. If it weren't for the bedbugs I'd have rated it a 9/10 which is why I am only putting a 4/10 not a 1/10. I wish him all the luck in getting rid of them. I almost feel bad leaving a bad review because the owner was so nice but bedbugs are very serious and can spread to your luggage then to your house / other hostels so it is important that others read this. I soaked my backpack/stuff in boiling water for an hour just in case after leaving. I recommend anyone does this if they encounter them where they are staying to avoid bringing them home.

Bedbugs. I woke up with 38 bites mostly in lines of 3 on my hands/arms/feet so I am almost certain they were bed bugs (I've run into them twice before, 4 and 5 years ago at other hostels) and I was 5 nights in the same place before staying here with no problem so they were definitely from here (the bites can take up to 48 hours to appear for some people especially if they've never been bitten before). I hope the owner can get rid of them soon but they are serious and you can't take a halfway approach. They will spread to other rooms if they haven't already (38 in a night is a lot). The over the counter chemical he sprayed in the room after I told him likely won't do anything as most are resistant nowadays. Heat treating all areas will be necessary plus maybe diatomaceous earth but that only works on contact. The chemicals will do almost nothing. Please if you are reading this bed bugs are very hard to remove as they hide in tiny places you can't see. I am writing this for him too because he sleeps there too so unless he doesn't develop a reaction (30-40% of people don't) he will have many bites once they spread. Good luck exterminating them!

Amazing owner, very helpful and well informed about stuff like sights, public transportation and taxis in Subotica. Whole hostel is very clean and well kept. Rooms are very small but don't feel claustrophobic and amazingly they are very well ventilated. Bed was comfortable. Straight 10 from me ❤️

Nothing bad to say really

Arrived at bus station in the evening and did continue by bus early in the morning. Just needed a bed and a shower - so price and location were perfect. Very small room, would not put it into consideration for a longer stay. Very clean place and friendly host.

The cleanness. And the host very professional and kind

One of the best hostel I have ever been. Forget about fancy cities, you have to see Subotica and stay in this place. It was clean, there was air conditioning, I was alone in the room because they don’t mix people, you can lock yourself inside, it’s so safe, comfortable and quiet. Places to charge your phone next to your bed, little bedside lamp, very nice taras with comfortable garden furnitures, place to smoke, separated bathrooms (for ladies and gentlemen), nice kitchen. I don’t know what can I say more. Ah, also they give you slippers so it’s stays clean even more. And LOVELY owners that helped me so much, we had nice conversations and I will always remember this amazing Serbian coffee. It was so pleasant to be there and probably it’s not my last time. And the last thing is that as a solo female traveler it was super comfortable to have a separated bathroom and single room in this price. Hvala :)
