The New Inn Clovelly

Beautiful setting

The location of The New Inn in Cloverlly itself is absolutely chocolate box beautiful.

We chose a standard room, as the rooms at the new inn were pretty pricey we booked a few weeks before our visit, looking on their website it looked relatively ok. However our accommodation at the New inn was more like store room. Tucked away on the ground floor of the building opposite the New inn. With no room number and only way to open the door was via a key to close it by pulling on the key towards you. The room was dark, damp, a little bit musty with a view of scaffolding outside our brick wall view. The linen was clean but felt damp and the room itself was relatively clean, just tired looking furniture, nothing like the picture on the website our connecting bathroom was down the hall, but because it was only marked private instead of bathroom for room 9, several people were also using our bathroom from off the street. The room was £110 pounds for the night, no breakfast included. It was worth no more than £50. To be honest the New inn could be absolutely amazing, IF it had some money spent on its decor, its very out dated and tired looking.

Lovely old Inn right in the center of the historic Clovelly village. Our room was across the street and a bit small with bathroom down the hall, but it was charming and had an ocean view. The staff were lovely, the food was excellent and the experience felt like stepping back in time

I had a ensuite room which was really comfortable and clean, tastefully decorated and with tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and large bathroom. We ate at the Inn for dinner and the food was excellent. Not much choice but it didnt need anymore as there was something for everyone on the menu. Breakfast was a good choice of dishes both cooked and cold. The Inn is halfway up/down the cobbled street and is a great stop off if you need a breather for a drink.

The hotel was near the top of the village and was a very quaint and historic building opposite the New Inn.

The room and bed were both very small. The hotel which uses both buildings is very understaffed so there is never anybody at the reception desk with checking in, checking out or to answer queries. There was no offer to carry bags up to our room on the third floor as other hotels had, and after walking 30km that day and wanting an early night we were kept up by the chatter from the bar downstairs until late. Clov et on is such a pretty little village but the accommodation was disappointing.

The Inn is quite lovely and the staff was really helpful and friendly. The hake from the restaurant was really nice and the breakfast was also really tasty on one of the days of our stay.

The rest of the food from the restaurant was quite average, as well as the service. Also, one of the days the breakfast was also a bit disaapointing. In general, the Inn would really benefit from a deeper cleaning both in common areas and rooms.

Staff at breakfast very friendly, lovely atmosphere and the service was prompt. Food excellent. Location fabulous with a short walk to the sea.

Room needs updating but the bed was very comfy.
