The City Arms

The location was perfect, within easy reach of all the facilities in the high street. The hotel is very quirky having once been a small prison. I didn't spot the guide book in the room until too late, but if you like history, you will find this fascinating. Although it was too small to have a car park, there was a local one that accepted reasonable 24 hour parking.

The room was a little dark with one small window and there wasn't a two-pin shaver socket. The bathroom needed some DIY attention but there was nothing too problematic.

The bar/restaurant was very welcoming and obviously popular so it was an easy choice to have dinner there which we enjoyed.

If dinner was anything to go by I wished that they had offered breakfast, however, this is more an observation than a complaint.

The size of the room was good and it was clean. The heating worked well.

The fact that live music on Fridays until 23:00 was not advertised until at the location which has an effect on the quietness of the room but then again I should of known that given it's a pub. The music did stop at 23:07.

Everything was very last minute, booked on Wednesday and arrived on the Friday for the carnival. Perfect for what we needed, just around the corner from the main street and all the 😊

Lack of breakfast, but there was a Wetherspoons 10 minutes away.

The staff were so helpful and accommodating. They went out of their way to make sure we were looked after.
