Black Buoy Inn

A very welcoming pub, with young but extremely polite and professional staff, a rare commodity. The room was extremely clean, spacious and well equipped, with a lovely large shower. Adding to the experience was the clientele, who were very friendly. We walked around the busy village and the experience was the same. We had a lovely visit and this will be our home from home on our frequent visits to Colchester. Thank you Tracey.

Very friendly welcome in a really good traditional pub. Room appeared newly fitted out, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. In a very interesting village, I'd like to explore more.

An attractive and atmospheric pub, yards from the waterside, in a peaceful village, with several places to eat and drink nearby. Our 'family' room was pleasant and comfortable.

On arrival, we were told that someone else had been checked into our family room by mistake, and we had a long wait for the housekeeper to be informed, so that we could get into the room. We had booked and paid for bed and breakfast, but on arrival were told breakfast was not available. The price of our breakfast was refunded.

Good sized room in a great location in Wivenhoe. Very friendly accommodating staff. Apologetic about lack of breakfast.

We chose as had a good breakfast at the pub when visiting earlier this year, very disappointed that breakfasts were discontinued with no real option, not even continental. The £15 refund per night seemed a bit tight. The cleaning regime could have been better, lots of dusty corners and missed nooks and crannies that should have been noticed by housekeeper. A bulb not working and socket for phone charger too low to be of any use.

It started with an email to say no breakfast would be provided. Which was one of the reasons we were staying. In fact the kitchen was closed. No recommendations of where else to go. The WiFi didn't work. We were told that the water wasn't for drinking? But a bottle had been provided for the three of us! The room was very warm, a fan would have been good. There was a stale smell on the steep stairs to the room? And our room smelt like cat wee? The room wasn't overly clean. It was dusty, black marks on the pillow cases, mouldy seal on the shower door, mouldy plug hole. Cracked glass by the sink. Not safe for our child. Not cover on back of remote control, exposed batteries. Again not safe for a child! The beds are old! Uncomfortable and lumpy, look like they're falling apart! People smoking under the window, the Ash tray under the window, bit smelly. The staff sat out there a lot vaping. Seems a bit like a youth club place for the staff to hang out eating domino's pizza. Never met the manager? And if you want a drink, pay by card, as they had no change? They never said where the parking was. Not very helpful. But guess that's what you get when it's run by eighteen year olds. Wish I hadn't stayed here. Will not be going back.
