Hostal La Casa del Sol

This is such a wonderful family run hostel with a warm and generous feel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and often gave us extra bread at breakfast free of charge. The dogs Luna and Kira really made our stay and were always up for a cuddle. Overall this was a well equipped, pleasant hostel - especially given how rustic parts of Copacabana can be - in a nice quiet part of town but only a 5 minute walk from the centre and waterfront.

Limited hot water even with few guests staying although we’ve found this is often common place in parts of South America where understandably water is limited. Occasional (small) electric shocks from shower tap :/

Property and room are warm and cozy. Owner was very friendly, accommodated my requests and gave me good tips about places to visit around. Breakfast was good.

the room is spacious and quiet, located on the hill near the iglesia de la Maria Nacional but a little far from the lake shore. The breakfast is o.k.

The room is very cold and the water pressure is so weak and the water temperature is so low that I just quit showering.

The property is located a short walk away from Plaza 2 de Febrero and the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de Copacabana, in what seems to be a quieter residential area, away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre (especially on a weekend). Our room was spacious, clean and cosy. The hot shower worked decently, which was essential during the chilly nights. The included breakfast was basic but sufficient (consisting of a jam/cheese toast, a piece of bread, and some cereal/yogurt that we can take, as well as coffee/tea). There was also a lot of open area in the property. We could hang out there after checkout while waiting for our bus. It was also nice that there are shared bathrooms we could use while doing so.

Wifi was on the slow side (but still functional) especially from our room. Note that there is a short but steep slope near the property, which you will have to walk up if you want to get to the city centre. Enough to huff and puff given the altitude. Not a big deal for us, but might be a challenge for those with mobility/physical issues.
